About this ebook
Harley knows Campbell von Havre is hiding something she won't like.
Harley von Canmore is a firebird, one of the old races who are emerging across the globe. She is also the Police Chief of the tiny town of Falconer, in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Harley's town is nearly all old race people, which creates challenges that she never faced as a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer. That includes dealing with Campbell von Havre, who works tirelessly to support the townsfolk. He is a dragon, and her element's superior to whom she, as a firebird, must obey.
When the grandson of the town's doyen, Moira Falconer, is found in a hot tub and Campbell is connected to the death, Harley investigates the mystery surrounding Campbell. But not everyone in Falconer wants Harley digging that deep and the reaction to her investigation is violent…
The Shepherd of Fire is part of the Harley Firebird urban fantasy series of novelettes, which is set in the same world as Taylen Carver's Magorian & Jones series.

___
Praise for Taylen Carver's urban fantasy:
Plenty of exciting twists and turns.
Feel the tingling of danger, the aha's of escaping death, and the excitement of magic
I loved this and will continue on with the series.
A very satisfying first book for a new series
blends the paranormal and the thriller/suspense you expect in a who done it crime story
Love the heroine
The story is filled with many interesting characters, and I'm sure throughout the series we will learn more about them and their new Sheriff and I can't wait to read all about them.

THE STORY SO FAR…
Harley von Canmore is a firebird, one of the rarest of the Old Races. The Old Races are former humans who survived the Tutu virus, only to metamorphose into other creatures. Goblyns, who are called orcs in North America, are the most common. There are also hobgoblins, dwarves, fae, angels, dryads, dragons, salamanders, sirens, avancs and water leapers, each aligned with one of the elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water.
The town of Falconer, in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, had a population of one thousand people. Without exception, they all contracted the Tutu virus. Now the residents are becoming Old Ones, without official status in Canada and scrambling to survive. The town’s mayor, Akicita Frazier, hires Harley to police the town.
Harley was as a decorated Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer before her change. She resents the loss of that career and is in denial about her new life as a firebird. She also serves two masters; the law, which she has sworn to uphold, and Campbell von Havre, a dragon elemental. Firebirds are subject to dragons and must obey them. Yet her cop instincts tell her Campbell is not the simple businessman he appears to be, but he does seem to put the good of Falconer first.
Campbell seems taken with Harley on a personal level. While helping her adjust to life as a firebird, he also makes it clear that he would like to be far more than wary acquaintances.
Now read on…
THE SHEPHERD OF FIRE
February in Falconer was a miserable month. Harley had lived in a dozen different towns in the Canadian Rockies foothills over the near-twenty years of her career as a Mountie, but she couldn’t remember ever seeing the weather gauge drop below minus thirty.
Celsius.
Until today.
Thanks to her recently recovered metabolism, she no longer set fire to bed sheets. Instead, staying warm had abruptly become a problem.
Harley had been using a cloak as an overcoat, because it went over her wings. In thirty below (Celsius) weather, the blanket-thin cloak no longer worked. She’d have been better off wrapping her bed comforter around her. This morning, she had been strongly tempted to do just
