About this ebook

Every fortune-teller says my future is a blank. Guess that means I get to write it myself.

So this summer I'm off to the beach, helping my sister settle in and looking for adventure. Only, I didn't expect an island haunted by bear spirits and gorgeous guys.

And a mystic who finally tells me the truth. I'm a witch under an enchantment that can only be removed by bathing in the ocean, naked, under the full moon.

Okay, I'm game.

The beach was calling my name. We’d barely arrived when I dropped my things in the rental house and ran for the waves, shoving my oh-too-pale hands deep into the mucky sand. The water ran over me and I sighed. Seagulls called to each other overhead, and the smooth breeze full of salt and sunscreen hit my nose. When my sister had suggested a summer at the seaside, I’d had my bags packed by the time she’d finished speaking. It was just what I needed after a brutal first year at college.

Besides, Maddy had been wanting to move to the beach for years now, and I was happy to tag along and get her settled. I loved the idea of a place to get away from the ongoing drama of our adopted parents. You’d think that before adopting two girls would be the time to figure out your marital issues, not years after when we were grown. Phil and Annette had always been good to us, but I’d been grateful to go off to college away from the constant fighting.

I looked up and down the beach, enjoying the flesh display almost as much as the sand. And one or two of these gorgeous muscled hunks were just the ticket to forget all about Ram. My freshman year fling had been amazing, but as Maddy said, we were young and carefree, and we shouldn’t waste ourselves on some loser who wanted to micromanage our every move. Well, I shouldn’t. My adopted sister was the best at walking away from anyone who got bossy, but I fell hard for it every time.

Well, no more, I said, pulling off my sandals and shoving my feet in the shallow water. The warm sun beamed down on me, and I just let go, relaxing and staring out across the waves. A dolphin fin appeared out to sea, and the family near me started jumping and shouting. I could lie here forever. I grinned and closed my eyes.

When Maddy came and poked me an hour later, I was bright red and already starting to blister.

You idiot, my sister muttered affectionately. Her dark coloring matched her Italian father, and she never burned, while I’d gotten blonde hair and fair skin from whoever my real parents were. The adoption contracts were open, but the agency hadn’t had any more information to share. Luckily, Phil and Annette didn’t care where we came from.

I winced as I stumbled to my
