T o Whom I Care is the result of a strong desire of Dr. Abdulelah Allam to share highly important life-learned messages with his children and close friends in Saudi Arabia. (He has five adult children and many famous and well-connected associates and colleagues in Saudi and throughout the world.) While completing the recently published book 1, he conceived and committed to an ambitious expanded project—a five-part chronology describing key events, experiences, and highly personal thoughts and beliefs yielding those life-lesson messages he wishes to convey.

His writing begins in Arabic and is translated to English. His style is unique: easy-to-read, flowing stream of consciousness, often poetic. His messages are universal. One reviewer commented, Comprehensive, clear and compelling. And another writes, The messages transcend all religions and societies as they illustrate belief systems that lead to nothing but positive outcomes and clear, intense spiritual thinking.

The five parts frame five periods of his life. Book 1 focused on the years birth to about age twelve. Book 2 focuses on ages twelve to twenty-one. Books 3, 4, and 5 are in process. Book 2 topics describe a self-centered, lazy, and wild adolescence; terrifying near-death experiences; academic cheating; marriage at age of nineteen to a beautiful thirteen-year-old; embarrassing failure, and gutty perseverance leading to personal triumphs. Topics include politics, jihad, terrorism, atheism, sexuality, and love and influence of family. He also bares and explores honestly his own shortcomings.

I believe Dr. Allam, who has both an MBA and a PhD, was inspired by Khalil Gibran, the Lebanese sage whom he had never heard of before I handed him several of Gibran’s short works in mid-2020 while he was a student in my management class at Tyson’s Institute in Vienna, Virginia. Soon after, he presented an early draft of an untitled manuscript for my review and reaction. The result was To Whom I Care (Book 1), and the intended audience expanded from his above-mentioned family and close friends to everyone, everywhere who may read his words.

    Enjoy!

    PREFACE

I believe that our tangible worldly life is about two journeys:

The first journey started after the apple was eaten, which we won in our mothers’ wombs despite billions of competitors. This shows our strength and our ability to take responsibility, so we were created for the second stage with the power of Allah.

The second journey is the last, which started after puberty, where we establish our record to be presented with our right hand on the Day of Judgment, God willing. This is where we achieve our victory, through eluding the dreaded Satan and his aides.

    I believe what I write.

    I think differently.

I remember and live in every beautiful moment.

I am absolutely convinced that every moment of our lives, no matter how negative it may be, one should find a glimpse of happiness in it.

With this message that follows, I try to represent my experiences in my second journey, highlighting the lessons from fifty-five years of experience in public and private sectors in the middle east. My hope is our future generations will cling to and pass on these lessons from this and in coming books, linked and connected as one body, with love and real positivity.

W hen I read the first book written by Dr. Allam, To Whom I Care , I was drawn into a story of love and family, a search for peace and understanding among people despite their differences. He came across as a very kind, loving human being. A man who was compassionate, caring, and willing to help out wherever and whenever he was needed. The type of person we would all like to have as both a neighbor and a friend. I was very excited to learn that he had written a second book. I sat down with the manuscript, eager to read more of the inner thoughts of this man.

I was very surprised at the contents of this manuscript. While
