IF THEY DON'T HAVE THEM IN STOCK, PLEASE ASK THEM TO ORDER THEM. Gary is now working on Book Six in this series, which will be one you won't want to miss. Born in Portland, Oregon, he traveled and worked throughout the United States in his early adulthood after leaving the service. He gained knowledge about how people live in various areas of our country. As he traveled through all of the states, he lived in many of those as he found work to tide him over for a few months. Gary learned more about working for low wages, no health insurance, and poverty in many states like Texas, Mississippi, Florida, and Alabama in the south. He found better salaries and health care were in Massachusetts and Connecticut in New England. He always wanted to know more about people around our nation and how they have genuinely been treated. Gary wanted young adults and anyone else who reads his books to understand that what you give is what you get back.

    PREFACE

Our team has been traveling for what seems months in this new world, however back home it has only been a few weeks if that. If you have been riding along with all of us since we entered this new world you have learned how we found new friends who are different in size and who speak strangely as well. But the way people speak, act, and do things makes them unique and sets them apart from the rest of our friends. But they are still our friends.

Looking back, we have come a long way. From that first encounter with a monster of unbelievable strength and stamina and Masher tossing me the sword of the gods. I returned home and within a day came back to Imperealisity with Steve, Bailey, and our pets. As we learned we were part of a prophecy that people have talked about for centuries. We started to travel as a team, we found we had powers and skills that grew daily.

We have saved people from slave labor, helped a god get back his power, found Steve can stop a monster by opening his mouth and giving it a blast of air. But all of us, including our pets, can create fantastic occurrences with many of those event’s amazing even us. We traveled with our new friends to Etheral where we met their king and queen.

We have searched underground sites and mines, stopped a fire-breathing tornado, saved farms from earthquakes. However, our main goal is to search out and stop whatever is destroying the western region of the Denarian lands.

We are still helping the excavation crews we meet along the way. At this time, we must find lumber and metal for the huge new doors and their hinges. Yes, we are going back to Etheral to get what we need and see if we can round up more help. We hope to find Anthony and some of his crew members as they can work wonders in a short period.

We are helping to finish this project, but everyone in our team and the excavation crew with us is anxious to get back in the wagons and hit the road again.

No, nobody is going to pick up a hammer and hit the road, it’s only a saying we have at home, which means traveling again.

We have still not run into any fires burning homes, large sections of land, or seen huge flying green bugs that have eaten all the green plants and the foliage off the trees.

We will not know what the problems are until we get there, but we feel very soon we will learn about the troubles facing those in the western part of this country.

    CHAPTER 1

    Back in Etheral

I looked around and noticed many townspeople around Sky and Jasmin. I sent Jasmin a thought, Have you ever traveled such a great distance in such a short time before?

Never, my friend, and that was truly amazing, she replied.

I am sure the king and queen would love to meet you both.

It would be nice to meet them, Sky countered.

Well, make yourself at home, and relax for now, I said.

We will fly and see if we can find some good fields of grass, Sky replied.

Maybe we can get you better than that, I stated.

So, I walked over to them and yelled, asking the people surrounding them, Do you happen to have pumpkins, squash, or veggies to feed our friends?

Oh yes, came the cry from many people.

Soon, several people were running for their homes. After a bit, we watched as they came back with baskets of squash and veggies while others carried pumpkins. I noticed many people standing in front of their homes on the face of those cliffs. As I viewed more, I saw a good number of people at the top of that mountain.

It looks like you now have an excellent meal headed your way. I would suggest you eat, and if you fly around here, be sure you stay invisible for the most part. They say those large crossbows up on that hill are for giant birds that have been pestering them, and I don’t want them to mistake you for one of those, I said.

We will be careful, and thank you for the assistance with the food, Sky replied.

I am sure you will be okay while people are around you, but if they start to leave, I suggest you disappear at least until we can introduce you to the king and queen. I will let you know what is happening tomorrow.

    Be safe, Marty, Sky commented.

    You too, Sky.

I walked back towards our wagon and found many of the others resting inside. So I asked, Do any of you wish to walk over to Old Etheral?

Bailey said, It would be nice to see if they made any progress after we left.

    Steve said, You bet.

Our mothers had no idea what it was we were talking about as my mother asked, Isn’t this Etheral?

Where we are now is called Lower Etheral. Where we’re heading is Old Etheral, Bailey replied.

Mark and Robert joined us as well, and soon, all of us were walking out of the front gates and entering the old townsite. All the local people had traveled home, and now it was only our team and parents left.

Bailey said, Wow, it looks like they have done a fantastic job since we have been gone.

I looked at Steve, and he just shook his head and said, I’m impressed. I wonder if we can get them to come to our places back home and work for a week or two.

As we walked around looking at new buildings and reinforced older structures, we noticed doorways at the base of stairs; so we walked down, opened one of the doors, and looked inside. Marty, this is wonderful, Bailey said.

I guess this is for us to use, I said as I reached out and grabbed a torch.

Look! They even left us matches to light it with, Steve said.

We walked through a tunnel about six feet high and around four feet wide, which opened into a large area with many rooms. We checked them all out, noticing that all the walls created support for the roof. After seeing an opening to a tunnel in the rear, we headed to that next. Walking through it, we found another door.

We were now standing inside a large room that had been carved out of the mountain. Looking all around the inside space, Steve started walking through another tunnel to another door, saying, I guess this must be an exit from this room. Soon, all of us were walking behind him.

We came out on the side of the mountain about a hundred feet away from where we entered the original stairs. We were looking at some of the other improvements and suddenly heard a voice saying, I guess you just had to come back to check out our work. Did you come back to make sure I kept my promise, or did you simply miss me?

Miss you? Are you kidding? Steve asked.

Well, it had to be that because you knew I would keep my word.

Anthony, it’s good to see you again. Wow, you have done a great job here. How many of these have you created? I asked.

We rebuilt many of the old buildings and even created two new underground locations along with this one. We had so much help I had to create new ideas for construction, Anthony said.

Outstanding work, my friend, Jack said.

Hey, Anthony, let me introduce you to some of our parents who recently joined us, Bailey said. Then she introduced everyone and told our moms and dads, who were walking with us, how Anthony and I met.

He was saying, Yes, I was hanging there in midair, hoping he would not just toss me off into the woods against a tree and kill me.

Bailey spoke up and said, Marty surprised us when he did that.

Mark said, He has surprised all of us as well. You have some great craftsmen and workers to have done all this in a few weeks.

Yes, but we had good ideas and planners from another world who just up and left us to go travel, party, and have fun, he replied.

After he said that, everyone laughed. I said, Well, I missed the parties in our travels. Not all of it has been fun, but we have found we need you and your crew to help on a project about eight days away from here.

Well, Marty, that is a lot of travel time. I am not sure many of my people have wagons or even that amount of time to help, he said.

Not a problem. We’re here for a couple of days. Everyone is picking up supplies, and we hope to leave the day after tomorrow in the morning. We may ride up and visit the elders tomorrow but should be back down here the next morning early. After we get together, it won’t take long to travel to where we are going.

He looked at me as if I were crazy. Then he noticed everyone with me was nodding their head yes. Then Bailey spoke up and said, Actually, it will only take about fifteen minutes to get everyone over there from here.

He looked at all of us and said, You know, Marty, I have seen you and those with you do amazing things, but to travel that far in that short time is impossible.

Well, in two more days, first thing in the morning, be in that field where we left from last time. Then you will find it’s not unachievable, Steve said.

So please gather up all the people you can because we have found a huge structure that needs stairs or a hallway created and a couple of huge doors made, I said.

Well, you know, I will do what I can for you and have people ready as soon as you need them.

That will work. We will be at that same location you saw us at the last time we left, I replied.

Anthony joined us as we all walked back to Lower Etheral. We discussed things that have happened since we have been gone, but we didn’t talk about how we would travel back to where we once were. I wanted to surprise him. As Nomi and his crew were leaving for their homes earlier, he asked me, So you don’t want him to know until we are ready to return? Isn’t that what you called sandbagging?

I had replied, Yup, I think that’s what I called it.

Everyone was talking about some of the things that we have experienced so far, and Bailey was saying, I thought Marty was going to die, but Steve just opened his mouth and blew it away.

Steve killed that thing by opening his mouth? Anthony asked.

Yes, he did, and you know what gets me is he has always been a quiet kind of kid. Well, at least I used to think that until he opened his mouth, Bailey replied.

As we continued to walk back to our camp area, we discussed many things, and it was nice to feel all the beautiful ideas and thoughts I was acquiring from everyone.

All of you did a great job of creating those big rooms down below. We have one entrance with stairs at the building we have found, and we may be able to create a hallway and entry in another location. We also need people who can work with wood as we need a set of large double doors built in both entrances, I said.

Anthony responded, A number of those who used to live in our community have moved over here. Some are living in the old townsite while others are residing in Lower and Upper Etheral. But they have all devoted themselves to helping all the people. It will be reasonably easy to reach most of them.

That will be great, Steve said.

Bailey’s dad, Robert, asked, How many people were involved in creating those shelters, and how long did it take?

Anthony replied, Robert, it took about a week on each one, and every able-bodied man and woman helped out. The first one was an experiment with the help of all the locals and, of course, this group. That first one took a little longer because all of us were coming up with ideas and plans. We did a lot of experimenting and guessing. Once that first one was created, everyone had a good idea of what they had to do next. The next two were a lot easier to build.

That workmanship is amazing, Mark said.

Jack spoke up and said, We have seen many amazing things here, Mark.

Well, here we are, and this is where we will be this evening. I am not sure if we will visit the elders or the king and queen, but just have your people show up here the day after tomorrow in the morning; and if they have a wagon, fine. If not, they can walk.

I am not so sure about having them walk for about eight days, my friend, Anthony said.

Bailey looked at him and said, It will only take about fifteen minutes to get to where we are going.

Okay, okay, I guess I will wait and see, he said.

Good, have all of your people here in two days at first light, and if we are not here at that time, we will be soon, I said.

As he walked off, I looked around and asked, Do you all think we can keep this from him until we open that doorway?

It will be difficult as many have already seen us arrive, but I guess we shall see, Mom stated.

We set up a bonfire and enjoyed relaxing for most of the day. Later in the afternoon, Sophia, Manna Day, and our mothers were busy creating something for dinner. Soon, we could smell the food; and as we viewed that bonfire and smelled the food, it all became too much to resist. Each of us headed over to get something to eat. Manna Day was handing out plates and utensils. Sophia and our moms were spooning out food.

Relaxing for a couple of more hours letting our food settle, a few of the townspeople returned. The wagon that hauled all the townspeople joined us again, the driver saying, Nothing at home as interesting as all of you, so I hope you don’t mind my joining you.

Steve spoke out and said, You are always welcome around us.

The bonfire was roaring; and everyone started singing songs, laughing, and enjoying a lovely evening.

We could view the top of the mountain where the town of Upper Etheral was located. So many people were standing on the ridge. Even the homes on the walks around the front of the cliffs had people out there again.

People spoke of the underground structure we had been working on and how Steve discovered it. Of course, everyone was happy that Steve was doing well. We got many questions about how long we would be here and what we needed for supplies. Some of the people were talking with Magness and his brother as they returned. People were speaking about places where they could get more metal if we needed it.

Jack talked with someone about sewing something, and I got the impression he wanted a new cape or robe made. As he walked over, I asked him if that was what he had in mind, and he said, Yes, I have needed a new one for many years. The last time we were here and all of us did some shopping. I found the finest material to make it with.

It was starting to get late with the darkness rolling in. Many of the people from the town who had returned earlier now wandered off to their homes. Many of our female team members climbed into our fancy coach, leaving most of us guys thinking of sleeping on the ground. The guy who brought the wagon back without the townspeople in it said, If you guys need a place to sleep, I have it here, and there is lots of straw in it.

Jasmin sent a thought saying, Mom wants to fly for a bit since we filled up on food. She said she would blame you if she crashed due to being overweight. Then I heard her laugh.

You tell her from now on, I will tell all the farmers to hide their squash.

Not a problem. We will just find a place less crowded to bed down for the night and will see you tomorrow.

Be safe and see you tomorrow, and please don’t let others see you until we know it’s safe, I said.

    CHAPTER 2

    Morning in Lower Etheral

The sun was rising. So were most of us. All of us were sitting near a new fire in our makeshift fire pit, having breakfast and something some of the local people called porret. I got the feeling it must be like coffee as our parents seemed to love it. Mark was asking for a refill.

Dohadie, Datilina, and Burdock were crossing the field on their way toward us in his wagon. Soon they pulled up and joined us. I asked, Why are you back so soon?

What? You don’t like our company? Dohadie asked.

Burdock said, Marty, I am shocked you don’t want us around.

Datilina said, Well, I can carry myself out of here and go someplace else.

As I laughed, I said, No, no, no way. I just thought all of you have a family to enjoy time with.

Marty, all of you are family, Burdock said.

On top of that, most of them have jobs to go to, Dohadie said.

Datilina spoke out and said, I was happy to leave as they keep acting as if I am a child and need to be taken care of all the time. So I guess if you still love us and want us to stay, I will set my hammers down and inhabit this location.

Well, you just sit down and make yourself home, as it seems this family loves having you the way you are, I replied.

All of you are always welcome around us. I hope you realize that, Bailey said.

Grab up some breakfast if you have not had any, Steve said.

Well, don’t mind if I do, Dohadie said.

Sounds good to me, Burdock commented.

Dohadie looked around and viewed Sophia; then he yelled, Sophia, hey, young lady, fifty pancakes, thirty sides of bacon, and lots of freshly baked bread.

Sophia yelled back, I suggest you get over here and make your own breakfast, Dohadie.

All of us started laughing. Dohadie turned to her again and said, Well, maybe I can settle for whatever you’re cooking up.

She walked up and said, It’s a good thing I like you, or breakfast would be a lot less than what we are fixing and probably on top of your head. How about you just settle for what everyone else is eating? Then she handed him one of the plates of food she had brought over.

That is more than fine with me. Thank you, Sophia, he said as he laughed.

She continued to hand out plates of food to the rest of us, and soon, everyone was chowing down. All of us enjoyed a good round of conversation and noticed many local people starting to gather again. We stood up and looked around as Bailey said, Marty, look at the upper road.

Robert, Mark, and our mothers all stood there and were staring at the hill. Finally, Robert asked, What is that?

That looks like the town of Upper Etheral, with the king, queen, and a good amount of their guards, Steve replied. The road to the top of the hill was packed with people. We knew one wagon was for the guards, but two others were with them, and they looked rather fancy.

I said, Mom, you may wish to contact Dad and see if he, Gram, and Vanessa’s parents would like to meet the king and queen of Etheral.

She was quiet for a few minutes and then said, Your dad just told me it would be about half an hour before he can bring everyone back over here, as George is finishing a project. But he will be here soon.

All of us looked at each other, then all of us started brushing off our clothes and primped our hair, trying to look clean and fresh. We watched as the entire procession traveled down that hillside and came our way. Mortice and Phil were in the lead with about twenty guards in tow. Three wagons followed behind them, with about twenty more guards. Of course, people were lined up in front and behind the entire procession.

Look at all the guards they have with them, Mark said.

Closer and closer they came; and soon, the entire procession pulled up in front of us. Steve, Bailey, and I walked forward as the king, queen, and three elders walked towards us. Our parents stood and watched the entire event as if they were afraid to move.

As we walked towards the king and queen, we stood in front of them and started to kneel. Haskin, the king, said, Oh no, you don’t, and he walked up and wrapped his arms around me and hugged me. The queen did the same with Bailey, and then Steve got hugs as well.

Haskin asked me, I don’t feel all of your powers. Did you lose them?

Oh no, we have learned how to hide them because we found too many weapons aimed at us before, Bailey replied.

Your Majesty, we are honored to be with you one more time, I stated.

Bailey said, It’s nice to be back in your cities again, even if it’s for a short time.

Steve said, It is nice to be back and have the chance to see all of you again.

I looked around and noticed Averell, Mincer, and Tangent and said, Hey, don’t we get a hug?

All three of them walked up and hugged me then walked up to Steve and Bailey and gave them hugs as well.

I turned to all of them and said, I want to introduce you to our parents.

As I started to do that, a doorway opened, and everyone jumped and screamed and started moving back. The guards all gathered around the king, queen, and elders.

I raised my hands and yelled out, It’s okay, that’s my dad, my grandmother, and all of you know Vanessa, her sisters, and their pets.

Along with everyone else, the king and queen stood with their heads leaning this way and that. Finally, Phil and Mortice told the king and queen, It is safe, and you do not have to worry.

Haskin started to walk over to where Dad was in the opening, and he said, Where is that place behind you?

Sir, that is my friend’s farm in the north where Vanessa and her sisters live.

The queen walked over then asked, How far away is that?

Steve spoke up and said, That’s about ten to eleven days by wagon to that location.

    Dear lords, the queen said.

Soon, one of the guards asked the king, Your Majesty, could we view that? Haskin looked at Dad with a questioning look.

Dad said, Yes, you can. Come on over here and check it out.

A few of the guards walked over. They looked all around with one of the guards speaking to my father, asking, Can we walk over there and back?

Yes. If you step past me, you will find you are standing on land that is about a ten-day ride north of here. When you walk back, you will have traveled that entire distance, Dad replied with a smile.

One of the guards looked at my father and asked, Really?

Yes, really, Dad replied as he nodded his head yes.

So he looked back at the other guards as if to ask, What do you think? Suddenly, all the other guards were nodding their heads yes. He stepped past my father, walked out
