    A mysterious box

With the recent growth of social media and the many internet stars, it didn't take long for people to try to copy those who were successful in order to try and get that bread. I hated the terms the internet has made popular. However, my best friend has fully embraced them and has become a stereotypical internet streamer in order to get his slice, as he would put it.

Hey bro, what’s the plan fo dis weekend?

I don't know, maybe go to see a movie or go to the mall.

Man, dat seems like some boring-ass bull shit. Maybe we can get some hot shorties and yeet some bread on dem bitches! I mean, Yolo, my brotha, let’s do something fun.

I stared at him in silent awe because I didn't understand a fucking thing that he had just said. Dude... What?

Bitch, what do you mean, what? I think I said it pretty crystal, ya hear?

Well... Did I want a day of listening to Jimmy talk this way? No, but... There’s a place I found online I want to go check out.

    Word? Any hotties dere?

Um, no, but it might be a good video spot for your channel. I mean, you’re all about trends, and isn't a major trend right now urban exploring?

Come on, bro. I'm trying to get my dangalang wetter than an otter.

What the hell does that even mean? You know what, I don't want to know, but you asked what I was doing, and I told you. So you can join me or go try and find some ratchet chick to catch a disease from.

Man, that shit sounds boring as hell, and don't talk about Veronica like dat. She got a cream to take care of da itchy twitchy down dere.

Well, you could record the whole adventure and call it a ghost hunt or something. That might get you some views, and you know what more views means, right?

Oh, shit yeah, bitches love ghost shit!

I honestly didn’t know why I wanted him to come with me, but I knew I didn't want to be alone where we were going.

    So where dis place at?

I'll tell you in the morning. I'll bring everything we will need.

How early? I mean, bro, I gots to get dem Z's.

We can meet up at the old rail station at say ten o'clock?

Shit, dat's early on a Sunday, but okay. Dis place betta be worth it doe.

If what I've researched is true, then it should be.

That night my excitement made it hard to sleep. I kept on imagining all the cool stuff we would find. This asylum had been abandoned since the inmates revolted and ended up burning half the building down. The other half was still intact, but it’s been sitting in the woods for close to a hundred years. I couldn’t wait to see what the local foliage had done to it.

I hope it wasn’t like the last place I explored. Some of the more hooligan types had vandalized that property, breaking all the furniture and fixtures that remained and spray-painting all over the walls. The place had been a mess.

Who knows, maybe I'll find a cool souvenir or something today.

I spent the early morning hours gathering the few supplies we would need for our trip, and I felt a strange unease, like maybe we shouldn't be going, but that feeling passed when I got a message from Jimmy.

Yo, this rise and shine bull shittery is wack as hell, boi. Oh, befo I foget. When the cameras be rollin, call me by my channel name, Bigtippy.

Oh, for Christ’s sake, I said, putting my face into my hands and sliding them down in minor annoyance and looking up at the ceiling before responding.

Yep, no prob man. Remember. Old train station, I typed back to him.

Yeah, yeah, already on my way.

Looking at the clock on my phone, I figured I should head out myself. I had spent far too long gathering some snacks and flashlights, but it was a long hike ahead of us.

Skipping down the stairs, I saw my stepdad sitting in the living room. His usual scowl plastered on his face, his attention focused on whatever sports page he’d found online while ignoring my mom, who seemed to be giving him the silent treatment while doing the dishes. They didn't ever seem to notice if I was home or not, even on a good day.

Hey, you little shit, don't be out too late. It’s a school night.

I stopped dead in my tracks. It was way out of his character to even acknowledge me. Let alone care if I was in class.

I glanced over to the kitchen and saw my mother already had a half-empty bottle of wine next to the sink and didn't seem to care that her husband was being a prick.

    Yeah, Rob, I hear ya.

His scowl seemed to deepen when I called him by his name. He hated the fact I refused to call him my father. But it’s not like he was anything to measure up to my real dad.

The thought of my real dad filled me with sadness. I'll always miss him.

I took off out the door and headed towards the station. Just thinking of where my dad might be after he went out and never came back felt like a gut punch that I didn't wanna deal with right now.

The tracks were overgrown with weeds, and the dilapidated building was barely holding itself up, but what would you expect from a building as old as the town. I knew Jimmy, sorry Bigtippy, would be here soon, but I still felt butterflies in my stomach.

    I sat with my
