Nursing HESI A2 - April Michelle Davis

    Mathematics

    Order of Operations

    Must be performed in the following order: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction EX: 4 × (3 + 2)² + 5 × 3 = 4 × (5)² + 5 × 3 = 4 × 25 + 5 × 3 = 100 + 15 = 115

    Roman Numerals

    Always arranged from greatest to least in value and combined to form numbers EX: DCLXVI = 500 + 100 + 50 + 10 + 5 + 1 = 666

To avoid adding four of the same numeral in a row, subtraction is used. If a numeral with a smaller value is placed before a numeral with a larger value, the smaller number should be subtracted from the larger number EX: CDLIX = 500 – 100 + 50 + 10 – 1 = 459

Converting Military Time to Civilian Time

If the number is less than twelve hundred, the time is a.m. EX: 1135 = 11:35 a.m.

If the number is twelve hundred or greater, the time is p.m. EX: 1250 = 12:50 p.m.

If the number is thirteen hundred or greater, subtract 1200 EX: 1622 = 4:22 p.m.
