Quick guide: Patterns & problem-solving

IN MATHS you’ll learn about patterns, functions and algebra. It’s part of the section in which you can relax a little, because you’re allowed to use your calculator. But it’s still important that you master certain key concepts.

In this quick guide we’ll look at the most important terms in patterns, flow diagrams and problem-solving (word problems) that will help you succeed in maths.

PATTERNS (NUMERIC AND GEOMETRIC)

We differentiate between numeric or number patterns and geometric patterns (shapes, symbols or objects).

Patterns can be repeating, for example, symbols, pictures or numbers that show up again and again. Δ
