Book Preview: #1 Odette, the girl in the photographs, was born April 28, 1912, in Amiens, France. She was the first child of Yvonne and Gaston Brailly, a banker. Odette suffered from polio when she was seven, leaving her paralyzed for more than a year. She was eventually cured by an herbalist.
#2 Odette was fascinated with the neighbors across the Channel, and she determined to marry an Englishman. She met Roy Sansom, a Briton, and they married a year later. Their first child, Francoise, was born in 1932, and they moved to London.
#3 Odette was asked to visit the War Office to discuss the possibility of her working for the British government. She had three children to care for, but she wanted to help. She was French born and raised in France, and she wanted to do something to help her country.
#4 SOE was created to coordinate and inspire the resistance of Nazi-occupied countries, and it was largely shrouded in secrecy. Its agents were called spies, but the role of Baker Street was not one of spymaster but of mayhem.
