Insights from Chapter 3
#1
The Red House, a typical early Tel-Avivian building, was the head office of the local workers’ council. It was later used by the Hagana, the main Zionist underground militia, and now houses a car park.
#2
The ethnic cleansing of Palestine was decided upon by the Zionist leadership in March 1948, and was implemented in the following months.
#3
Since the Holocaust, it has become almost impossible to hide large-scale human atrocities. The most formative event in the modern history of the land of Palestine, however, has been systematically denied: the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in 1948 by Israel.

It is achieved by all means possible, from discrimination to extermination, and it violates human rights and international humanitarian law.
#9
Ethnic cleansing is the expulsion of a population in order to homogenize the ethnically mixed population of a particular region or territory. The purpose of expulsion is to cause the evacuation of as many residences as possible, by any means necessary.
#10
The term ethnic cleansing is used to describe the expulsion of an ethnic group from a country. It is a clear-cut case, according to these definitions, of ethnic cleansing when it happened in Palestine in 1948.
