To my dear grandmother, Emily Kohls Volkmann, who first saw the Statue of Liberty from the deck of an arriving ship when she was twelve years old. She spoke only German and there were no bi-lingual classes in her new Wisconsin school to help her learn English. But, Emily was determined to master the English language—and she did. Throughout her adult life she insisted on good grammar and encouraged learning new words. This book is for her.
A Note From the Author
English Grammar has taken many hits on the high-speed information freeway. Some of the injuries are minor, and Grammar for Grads will ignore those, tending instead, to the most obvious and serious injuries. In Grammar for Grads there are no sentences to diagram, no quizzes, and no grades.
