    Introduction

    Live the Good Life

Picture the Good Life. What does it mean to you? Does it mean coming and going as you please and being beholden to no one? Is it living a life of comfort and forgetting what your alarm clock sounds like? Does it involve your feet in the sand with a drink nearby in a coconut shell and a little umbrella? It might be a cliche, but it’s also my idea of a great time.

No matter what your personal definition of living well is, I can guarantee that there is one thing that you and I share, and that is our desire for freedom. The good life perks mentioned above, including the tropical vacations (or residence), the calm and relaxation, the lack of bosses or other type of people you would like to divorce from your life, the abundance of sleep, all boils down to being free.

When you live the good life, you are free to choose how you spend your days. You are free to choose who you spend your time with, when you spend your time with them, and for how long. You are free to avoid negative situations and people. You have many options and you always choose the best ones for you and your family.

All of this sounded good to me seven years ago and I did something about it and never looked back. I realized I had been living a life of unnecessary burden and hardship and I saw the light. I told my friends I’ll never work for someone else again in my life, and I’ve been working for myself ever since. With many small businesses I had multiple income streams, plan B’s and fall-backs, or eggs in many baskets if you like. No one person or organization was in control of my life.

What I wanted most was my freedom. I knew instinctively that to break my chains, I needed to work for myself in some way. To be truly free I had to not only work for myself but I had to be abundantly successful at what I did and create for myself lasting wealth. I had not grown up rich, had no trust fund or inheritance, marrying into money was unlikely, as was the possibility of winning the lottery or becoming the next Hollywood heartthrob or sports superstar. So to become wealthy I had to start a business.
