The author shows the newbie around the house, explaining the lay of the land. There are three stories in all. The top floor is where the better rooms are. Some of the inmates have to share rooms.

The next morning, the newbie, Rook, is introduced to the rest of the inmates. Rook is shocked to learn that he’s sharing a wall with Velle, whom he’d pegged as a ladies’ man.

The rookie, Rook, is starstruck by Velle’s wild lifestyle. He is extremely nervous and doesn’t know what to do. The party guests, Velle and Soren, see this and make fun of him.
