About this ebook
They were worlds apart, but an island in moonlight brought them together.
Katherine Rowley is the governor's daughter on the Caribbean island of West Tainos, and her desire for a London Season has not dimmed, despite her father's refusal. No one that interesting ever comes to West Tainos. But the handsome Lord Barrington is still here, living just next door. He is rather smug or used to be, and Katherine finds herself spending more and more time with him. She knows she's risking a lot, but she can't help riding to meet him in the moonlight. There is just something about him that makes her want to see him again and again. It's simply too bad that he'll be leaving soon for England once more.
Lord Edward Barrington, a duke, has enjoyed his island respite more than he thought he would. It was all about business, but now the lovely, brown-eyed Miss Rowley has been turning his head, and business has begun to dim in importance. Meeting at moonlight seems like a good idea despite the risk, and yet in his heart, he knows that he will have to break hers. And soon.

Meeting a Duke at Moonlight (A Lady’s Dream Series, Prequel)
Prologue
August 1815, the island of West Tainos
Katherine couldn’t figure out if what she was doing was right. It was a decision propelled by excitement, thrill, attraction, and only a modicum of good sense. Or rather, not much sense at all. Not that sense much mattered to Katherine, as she was a very great believer in fate and the cards that life dealt one.
As her heart thrummed, she thought, I must take the chance to meet him while I can.
Her cloaked figure moved through the upstairs hall of her father’s house, like a ghost haunting the midnight hour. She kept her breath tight and short, and her footsteps were quiet. Praying that she could find the right place to step so no creaks could be heard, Katherine made it down the stairs. Instead of using the large front door whose heave and scrape would awake everyone in the house, she turned for the kitchen door, hoping to not meet with any late-night servant.
The kitchen was empty save for the sound of the leaking water pump, which drip-dropped into the large copper basin in the sink. It was a hollow sort of sound, and it made her shiver with the reminder that what she was doing could get her into very serious trouble. Without a second thought, and before she could lose her courage, she opened the back door to the kitchen.
Ever so slowly, she shut the door, and then she breathed out with relief. I have at least made it outside,
she encouraged herself. Then, gripping her cloak in hand, she scurried through the thin paths of the kitchen garden and out from between the hedgerows into the moonlit night.
It was a beautifully warm evening, just past the height of the summer months. The grass and trees had been growing at a fast rate, for the rains were still coming, and Katherine could smell them in the night air. Her footsteps crunched on the soft green grass as she walked to the stables, but she hadn’t gotten far when she felt an arm touch her shoulder.
Spinning around, she nearly tripped on her cloak. The arm grabbed her to steady her, and Katherine was looking into familiar eyes.
Martha, what are you doing?
she whispered hoarsely, her heart still recovering from the fright. You nearly startled me to death!
Martha chuckled but then covered her mouth and looked up at the house, waiting for a beat to see if anyone stirred.
She whispered back, "I could ask you the same thing. I saw you roaming about here and thought to myself, ‘What on earth is dear
