The delays scrolled slowly across the departure screen, and Melissa waited impatiently in hopes that her flight would be one of the very few leaving on time. She’d rushed to get to the airport, afraid she was going to miss her flight, but as she’d gotten here, there had been word of several storms causing issues, including a tropical storm in the Caribbean that had caused cancellations.

But as the flight to Haiti flashed across the screen with a cancellation, her unfounded hopes fell. She dropped her bag at her side, her shoulders sagging, and headed toward the gate agent to see what she needed to do next. It meant standing in line behind several others who had been equally hopeful, waiting her turn. By the time she reached the counter, she was frustrated and tired.

I need to get on another flight as soon as possible.
