The Stittsville Creative Writing Group is a great outlet and helps everyone by being the muse we all need. This specific Vampire story of my Hunterverse began with the Writer’s Group asking me to write a Vampire Story as they knew it was a favorite genre for me and My Mentor in writing being the infamous Anne Rice of who I met at a Book signing in Toronto in the 1980’s. and have since read most all of her works.
I also like to thank my Caregiver Glenn Aldridge who left his life in Toronto to come to the Suburbs of Ottawa West near Almonte Ontario after I suffered a Stroke and had been terminated from employment after illness. Then we both moved into Ottawa and bought a condo to make life better for us both though I do miss those 23 acres as time goes on and some friendly neighbours.
And continued thanks to friend Robert Jones who is like a brother and puts up with me for the few weeks each winter when I escape down to Alexandria, Louisiana for Mardis Gras and great food (especially Brown Bag, Arnauds and Little Big Cup) and Friends like him and Dave and Don and our trips to N’awlins and Natchitoches for Pralines.
Also, thank you to John W Partington for his help in formatting this book.
Author’s Note
This story is about two societies of peoples (of a sort). Although this story is independent and autonomous, it is also hereditary to my further stories: Treasure Hunter and even Storytime, Tommy the Autistic in which the magic in this Story is the base for the others. The era of this story is one of very old (geographically late 1800’s) compared to my time, 2021, during a great pandemic where technology is rampant, cell phones that work like computers, and computers and laptops connect people with each other while in the same room or home or from Countries a far distance away.
Chapter One
The village of Perath and the people of Perath are almost normal human families with horses for work and travel. There are legends of dragons and gryphons. Though neither of these have been seen in centuries. Although the society is not luxurious it is comfortable. They domesticate animals, and most children are schooled for basic knowledge. The elderly are revered for their knowledge and experience. However, it is the young adults that are trained in hunting and battle skills required to lead and fight enemies, and to help train those with special abilities.
You might wonder what the need of hunters and warriors in this peaceful society is. However, the outside world does not know of the people of Perath as other than Roma who are very reclusive in keeping away from others as are their ways, lore, tales of monsters, magic, and special abilities. The People of Perath also excel in language abilities and pick up dialects and other languages written and spoken.
Yes, the People of Perath are special; some even have powers such as fourteen-year-old Claire, named for her family powers of Clairvoyance. Claire’s mother, Serena, was a powerful oracle who could see the future when her ability worked well. When Serena recently died Claire’s abilities started to manifest, though it was possible it was also due to
