About this ebook
The Sambro Lighthouse Series, set on Canada's picturesque Crystal Crescent Beach, is a feel-good read perfect for fans of second chances with a bit of history and mystery all rolled into one.
Liz Beckett is grief-stricken when her beloved husband of thirty-five years dies after a long battle with cancer. Her daughter and best friend insist she needs a project to keep her occupied. Liz decides to share the beauty of Crystal Crescent Beach with those who visit the beautiful east coast of Nova Scotia and prepares to embark on the adventure of her life. She moves into the converted art studio at the bottom of her garden and turns the old family home into The Crystal Crescent Inn.
One of her first visitors is famous archeologist, Merc MacGill, and he's not there to admire the view. The handsome bachelor believes there's an undiscovered eighteenth-century farmstead hidden inside the creeks and coves of Crystal Crescent, and Liz wants to help him find it.
But it's not all smooth sailing at the inn that overlooks the historic Sambro Lighthouse. No one has realized it yet, but the lives of everyone in Liz's family are intertwined with those first settlers who landed in Nova Scotia over two hundred and fifty years ago. Will they be able to unravel the mystery? Will the lives of Liz's two children be changed forever if they discover the link between the lighthouse and their old home?
Take a trip to Crystal Crescent Beach and join Liz, her family, and guests as they navigate the storms and calm waters of life and love under the watchful eye of the lighthouse and its secret.
Sylvia Price
Sylvia Price first met Mennonite missionaries in Montréal when she was 13 years old. She was captivated by their faithfulness to Christ, their politeness, their calm lifestyle—especially in comparison to the bustle of a major city—and how they could enjoy the simplest things to the fullest. When they opened their home for her to stay with them for three weeks, she was made to feel like family. Their enduring legacy in her life was to get her a library card and to start reading for her to cope with the loss of television and radio. With a new-found appreciation for books, Sylvia set her sights to college then seminary in service of the Lord. She now spends her time writing, hoping to inspire the next generation to read more stories.

Prologue
1755
He knew it had been the right thing to do.
Laird Nevis Allardice was the epitome of a brave Highland warrior and chieftain: tall, muscular, and with a shock of thick, red hair. He looked so different when compared to the short, dark, French sailors working on the ship that if he had not had his clan traveling with him, he would have been regarded as an aberration to any stranger’s eyes.
Laird Allardice had only found the strength to leave the rolling, heather-clad hills and rocky, gray mountains of his beloved Highlands because his wife had agreed to it.
I feel it in me bones, Maggie,
Laird Allardice had said to his Lady, over one year before they’d set sail for the New World in the west. This clan on clan fightin’ cannae continue without the most fearful consequences, and we must leave before it consumes us.
His wife, the proud mother of three young boys and one precious daughter who was only two or three years short of the age to start thinking about a betrothal, had looked at her husband with a shrewd gaze.
I ken of what ye speak,
she’d said. The ceaseless bickering and petty squabbles between greedy men is bad enough, but when it erupts into killing and maiming, I fear for me children’s lives. Nae one season back, wee Brodie Buccleuch was shot for mistaking one Laird’s land for another’s. Estates and boundaries change hands so quickly, it’s hard to keep up!
Ye ken, love, that if we leave here it will be to live in a place where there are nay titles or privileges? Everything we hold dear—the lodge, our land, goods, and chattels—none of it can travel with us. We’d have to start all over again with naught.
Lady Margaret Allardice was a practical woman and had stopped to give what Nevis had just said considerable thought before replying.
Ye were always one to jump ahead of the gun, Nevis, but I have never doubted yer ability to weigh up the odds to our best advantage. P’raps we should take ship to the New World and see what it holds for us?
With his wife’s consent and approval, Laird Allardice had booked passage for his family on a French merchant’s cargo ship making its way west.
Where’s yer first port o’ call?
he had asked the captain.
We go to Chignecto first, dropping cargo and then carrying Arcadians further on to New England.
The man had taken a sun-darkened finger and pointed out the general area for Nevis on a well-worn colored lithograph.
News about warfare and expulsion was slow to reach Scotland, but Laird Allardice knew enough about British and French aggressions to keep his family as far away from it as possible.
How much more will ye charge to drop me family off...here?
Nevis had laid his finger on the map.
And so it was, after a grueling voyage crossing the Atlantic seas which had lasted two months and three days, the Allardice clan heard the wonderful welcome words shouted from the topmasthead.
Terre en vue!
On a blustering and brisk day in late spring, Laird and Lady Allardice and their brood of children first laid eyes on Nova Scotia’s fledgling port town, Halifax.
There was no wharf or jetty for disembarking and dropping anchor. The Allardices were assisted onto
