Avoiding the Fade - Gerber Charles

    Preface

Greetings, I am glad to be with you today! By the time you finish this book, you will discover some powerful secrets and invaluable experiences of mine as a hairstylist that could transform your salon business forever. I have been completely on track since I started my business with the help of these amazing secrets and discoveries.

Only a few days ago, I could not imagine I would ever be able to create a book! But once I’ve realized the immense need for this book came into being. I managed my schedule to find some time aside from my work, and those gradual attempts have helped me to make this happen at last!

This book will talk you through 10 steps/chapters that are guaranteed to keep you in business as long as you want to be kept. I personally witnessed salons shut down their doors in the midst of the recent COVID pandemic, but not mines. My steps are so tried and true that I will celebrate five years of business on one July 2021. I not only want this for myself but others as well, which is why I wrote this book.

    Chapter 1

    Don’t Put off for Tomorrow

    T

o start, the first step is don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today. Although this speaks for itself, I want my readers to understand the importance of keeping their business paperwork and documentation in order.

You must be in business to do business. Like Jim Rohn said, Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments. Keep your affairs in order so you can get resources that will be allocated to you. I will share these resources in a later chapter.

What you can do today is my number one principle for being a hairstylist, which has come about being the principle of procrastinating on things, I should have done pronto.

There are many instances where I should have called to check on documents or need to be filed. And I procrastinated on important phone calls regarding my business.

There were many times when I should have checked on a pending statement or pending money transaction that I was procrastinating, which could have cost me a lot of money in fees. I used to always tell myself, ‘Oh yeah, I will call the bank in the morning’, and two or three days go by and I never did! That is a poor habit while doing business. There was a deadline as well and now I have to pay extra fees for the delay important task that has a deadline.

I procrastinated a lot in the beginning stages of my career and it ended up costing me several opportunities. In my younger years I over drafted my account at Wells Fargo and never paid off my debts. Years later my sister and I were planning to apply for our business bank account with Wells Fargo.

The bank was helping small businesses to open business accounts and also providing support filing for an LLC for a very small fee. With the amount of support they were offering, the price was a steal.

Unfortunately, due to me procrastinating and not handling my debt correctly, my partner had to move forward with starting the Business legally with her name on the documents without me.

This crushed me but the show had to go on. I learned that you can’t wait to handle your business, but you need to stay on top of things when you want to make it as a business owner and hustler.

    What Exactly Does ‘Procrastination’ Mean?

Procrastination means avoiding or deliberately delaying an important task that has a deadline.

Charles Dickens: Procrastination is the thief of time

As stated by Dr. Piers Steel, 95% of the population procrastinates at times, with 20% being chronic procrastinators. The effects of chronic procrastination can be so severe that it jeopardizes a person’s health, business, relationship, and credit rating.
