About this ebook

Two fate-bound lovers. Divided by time. A love that never dies….

Pamela

I was standing in the middle of the desert, golden sand stretching as far as I could see in all directions. I waved my arms in front of me, as if checking to see if it was real. I was half expecting my fingers to touch the clothes hanging in the closet like this was some kind of virtual reality. Frantically, I looked around again for a landmark. Anything that would indicate where I was. Clearly this was not a dream. Where do I even go from here? I stood staring into the distance, my mind a tumble of thoughts and emotions as I tried to make sense of what was happening….

Nefermaat

I groaned in frustration, rising from my bed, and headed for the physician's wing. As I entered the chamber quietly and sat down beside her, I watched her in silence as she slept. With the bandages off her face, she looked like the day I had first seen her. I looked upon her face, taking in her features, her golden hair, her heart shaped face, smooth white skin, and rosy cheeks. I felt my loins tighten in desire as I stared at her, but I suppressed my urges, as well as the irrational feelings that kept invading my mind and confusing my thoughts.

What is it about you that draws me to you?

    Eternal Spark - Aaliyah Rose

    Prologue

The sun beat down on the crowd as they shouted and cheered. The rays so hot that that it made the air simmer like a mirage. While the adoration of the crowd was most welcoming and would make any person who was their subject of their cries, beam with pride and authority, my only thought was to lay eyes on her. The dreams lately had been incessant and something inside me knew that it had something to do with the foreign beauty as she drew closer and closer. The familiar pull was strong and I could not deny it any longer.

From my high vantage point over the crowd, I watched as the elaborate entourage of the queen continued down the streets. The brilliant array of colors and gleam of gold making evident the riches that came with Egypt. I waited keenly to see what my best friend had raved about. What he described as his beautiful ‘goddess,’ the rest of Rome whispered, ‘temptress’ and ‘harlot.’ I was keen to meet this temptress-goddess and make my own judgement of her character.

Exotic dancers, then jeweled horses pranced down the street, followed by fifty golden chariots and one hundred or more armored foot soldiers. Finally, in the distance, a large statue of a pharaoh could be seen, being carefully maneuvered by a team of men and horses over one hundred strong. A top the statue, sat a figure clothed head to toe in gold.

As the procession ran through the streets and the final monument loomed before us, the figure of the golden woman atop sparkled in all her glory. As she descended the stairs, my good friend rose to greet her, welcoming her for all to hear. She continued to wave and smile at the crowd before alighting from the last step and graciously accepted his outstretched hand before bowing deeply. The crowd roared with enthusiasm.

Reaching up she removed her beaded veil from the golden-winged headdress and straightened. It was then I knew I was in trouble. Before me stood the most beautiful, breathtaking woman I had ever seen. As our eyes met, my breath hitched in my throat. The sounds of the crowd faded in the distance, and I barely heard the introductions from Gaius as she was brought before me.

A feeling of bewilderment hit me with full force, but my moment of confusion swiftly changed to that of utmost certainty. I knew this woman, and I could tell in her eyes that she knew me. An irrational feeling of anger began to rise in me at the sight of Gaius's hand holding hers firmly in his.

Even as she was being led away from me, I knew she was mine; she was and always would be eternally…mine....

    Chapter 1

    Pamela

I can't believe we'll be done with college after our paper is submitted tomorrow! I couldn’t help but squeal with excitement at my best friends Bethany and Rowland.

It's like a dream to me, Bethany laid back on my bed with a happy look on her face.

Rowland shrugged. If you ask me, it isn't much of a big deal. We finish school, then what? Out of the three of them, he was the most indifferent about their graduation. Maybe because he was already working with his father out in the field and his graduation was just a formality now.

Don't be such a spoilsport, Rowland. There is a lot to explore in life, I rolled my eyes at him.

"Exactly! So much fun to be had." Bethany said, winking salaciously at Rowland. I couldn’t help but laugh. Bethany was all about living the moment and nothing else. I stared at my childhood friend. She had beautiful features and despite her own protests, Bethany knew she was every man's dream with her brunette hair, blue eyes, and petite figure. People often joked that Bethany looked like my twin, except that I was the pure blonde version with a few more curves. Bethany always teased me about how I made men drool over me. Of course she was exaggerating but I didn’t mind her good-hearted teasing.

Bethany was more of a sister to me than a friend. We grew up together almost all our lives, making the bond between us girls strong. In fact, we had both left Little Rock for San Francisco because of college.

The only real fun I'm looking forward to is going on more trips to excavation sites with my father, Rowland said with a broad grin.

Oh, you know that is not what I meant. Beth held Rowland's eye, teasing him. Do you think of anything else other than searching for things in the dirt?

Some of them are more interesting than the things of the present, Rowland replied dryly, raising an eyebrow at Bethany. Don't you agree, Pammy? He turned, facing me.

Sorry Beth, but I have to agree with Ro on that one.

Beth rolled her eyes at me. Of course, you will agree. Rowland has succeeded in turning your mind to these archaeological... things, Beth waved her hand in the air, shaking her head slightly.

I don't see them as just things. Trust me, Beth. You only have to open your mind and you will find yourself captivated. There’s just so much knowledge in history. So much to learn… I stopped abruptly and chuckled as Beth faked an exaggerated yawn.

Thanks, but no thanks Beth waved her hand dismissively. I think I’ll look to the future instead.

I shook my head and smiled. Bethany was right of course. Over a year ago, I hadn't been interested in archaeological artifacts at all. In fact, the most I knew about artifacts and history was from snippets of documentaries on TV or in the National Geographic magazines. I had always been into space related topics and hence, the reason I was working towards a degree in astrophysics. However, after meeting Rowland, he had changed everything, and instead I got into a dual degree, adding archaeology into the mix.

I had met Rowland three years earlier. I remember thinking he was the hottest guy I had ever seen, all bright blue eyes, perfect white teeth, tanned skin on a toned physique and sandy blonde hair. For some reason he made me nervous. I'd shielded my eyes and squinted up at him from the flat of my back. The sun dappling through the trees above made his head appear to glow with a halo as he'd looked down at me sprawled out on the campus lawn.

My interest in archaeology started that day.

Archaeology. he'd said. I must have had an uncertain look on my face, as he chuckled and continued. It’s the study of the human culture by examining their material items. Well, what’s left of them anyway. His phone vibrated then, and he put one finger in the air to indicate he’d only be a second. I listened fascinated and a little impressed with his fluent French. Of course I had no idea what he was saying, but he sounded really sexy. When he hung up the call a minute later, he reached into his bag and pulled out a large book and handed it to me. Ancient Artifacts. This is what I love. I think half the fun is in finding them first.

The rest was history. We had started talking constantly after that, even went on a few dates initially but in time just naturally became close friends. Rowland had taught me a lot about archeology within the short span of knowing him, getting the majority of his knowledge from his father, who was an important archaeologist already who travelled the world.

How are we going to celebrate graduation? Bethany asked, breaking my thoughts.

How do you want us to celebrate it? I asked. Knowing the answer already was going to be nothing short of an epic night out partying.

We should party, Bethany squealed while Rowland shook his head knowingly.

A nice dinner sounds better, Rowland responded.

Spoilsport, Bethany muttered, throwing a pillow playfully at his head. We aren't going on a date here. We should go out and have some fun.

We can have fun… over dinner, Rowland grinned at her. I watched their banter with amusement. It was always like this between them. Rowland and Bethany rarely agree on anything. While Bethany was more outgoing, Rowland was more reserved. However, they didn't take any of their arguments seriously. It was just their way of teasing each other.

Party or dinner Pam? Bethany suddenly asked as she faced me. I stared at both of them with wide eyes as I contemplated both of their ideas.

I think I'll have to agree with Bethany. We need to party, I said, while Rowland sighed shaking his head.

    You girls win, he said.

Don't we always? Bethany stated with a broad grin.

Whatever, so when do we head out tomorrow? Rowland asked.

Straight after our nice dinner tomorrow, I winked at him making him grin.

Beth groaned, standing and grabbing her bag "Okay, okay, dinner and then we party."

Where are you going? I asked with a creased brow.

I'm going to meet with Ben, Ben was her boyfriend. I was actually surprised they were still together after six months. I knew how easily Bethany got tired of relationships. She barely dated for more than three months before she ended things. However, Ben seemed to be the exception to the rule. I was just happy someone was able to hold her attention for so long. It's just a pity that Rowland had a crush on Bethany. I’ve known this for some months when I saw Rowland throw Bethany some side glances when he thought no one was looking. Bethany of course, is oblivious to the fact.

Beth quickly hugged us both. Bye, guys.

Bye, We chorused before Bethany left us.

I frowned as I looked at Rowland watching Bethany leave with a longing look.

You should tell her you know, Rowland started, knocked out of his daze, and directed his attention towards me.

Excuse me? Rowland asked with a questioning look.

Your crush on her. You should just tell her and be done with it, I shrugged.

I don't know what you're talking about, Rowland replied dismissively.

Come on. I've seen the way you look at Bethany. She might not notice it, but I do,

I can't tell her that, Rowland said with a sigh, as he stared straight ahead.

    Why not? I asked.

Can't you see? She is happy with Ben. No matter how much I like her, I can't ruin her happiness because of my feelings. Seeing her happy is enough to make me happy, Rowland said.

Wow, I wish all men were like you, I said, thinking back to some of the ex-boyfriends I had in the past who in hindsight were quite selfish. Most men I've been with didn't care about anything other than themselves. I sighed resignedly.

And then when you finally find a decent guy Pam, you can’t have him.

Do you want to talk about it? Rowland patted the bed beside him.

I shrugged. There isn't much to talk about. I fell in love, and I was hurt badly in the end,

I'm sorry about that. Is that why you haven't been in any other relationships? Rowland asked.

I knew Rowland was fishing for answers as to why we never made it, and admittedly it was my fault. My last relationship had really
