In the Land of Monsoons - Krystal M. Chuon
a swarm of ancestral sighs
breathed me to life
but fluid raged inside of me
with sapphire blue tinting my skin
khmers say there is power in names
perhaps monyda blessed me
and perhaps my ancestors understood
the preciousness of my life
embedding long-gone wishes into my being
knowing that their dreams will be fulfilled,
one day,
with me
––––––––
this was my birth into the universe
reminding me to be thankful for every day
that this stardust vessel of mine is sacred
and i am to live this life with absolute purpose,
grace, fortitude, and ease
ancestors residing in my bones
deep within my joints
they’re the push and pull of my limbs
down to these fingertips that spill their stories
they are there
and everywhere
i carry their weight,
