    I think the museum is stupid! Jackie said. The girl sat stubbornly at the window side, on a bench almost at the back of the full tram. Her mother sat next to her; and next to her mom, on the aisle, was just enough room for her smaller brother.

    I say, Jack, her mother, Famce, began. She quickly looked around to see if anyone had heard her.

    Books are for reading. You weren’t allowed to read there, the seven-year-old girl added. She ran her fingers across the graffiti on the back of the bench in front of her. "Mikey was here," it read. Loser, she thought, and shrugged indifferently.

    Oh, I see, Famce said. Yes, well, the museum has a lot of old books. Some of them are hundreds of years old; they are worth a lot of money and…

    But I liked the letters, Jason, Jackie’s two years younger brother, said.

    Uh, yeah? Books have letters, right? A lot of letters. Famce had to divide her attention between two children. And that was not always easy for her at the end of a long day, like today.

    No-ho. He means those big, coloured letters. In the garden, Jackie said stubbornly. She didn’t look at her mother, but stared out of the tram through the steamed windows. Her fingers slid across the glass and drew a smiley face on it.

    Big coloured…? Oh! Suddenly she understood what Jackie meant. The play objects. In the garden? Famce said.

    Yes, in the garden. Those were fun. Making words is fun, Jackie said.

    Yeah, that was funny, wasn’t it? I took a few pictures of it and forwarded it to Dad, she sighed. Why did he have to work overtime today? Now she was on her own. "Those letters were
