anguish yearn mend
for the wild within us all, waiting to be claimed once more.
anguish
in every word they said, all i heard was to be more like them.
but i was a child
in love with the wild
& sheep can't
raise wolves.
love cannot grow where it hasn't been planted.
where does our child-like wonder sneak off
to
when we're forced
to be adults & give
it curfews?
- i'm too young to be this wise
i collected seeds of doubt, holding onto them as
long as i could, until one day
they spilled out my hand & grew a forest of wood;
mighty trees sprouted as far as
the eye could see but no one suspected that the forest grew on top
of me.
i am afraid of nothing
- except letting myself be happy.
