    Abstract

Combat has given me the misfortune of seeing young men…in the prime of their lives DIE, at such YOUNG ages. The turmoil that stirs within my SOUL makes me grieve for those INNOCENT lives…that were NEVER given a chance to ever BEGIN…just END…senseless LOST POTENTIAL.

A belief system is a congregation of vocabulary conceived by those in search of meaning…because the truest and hardest actions…trials and tribulations…and especially TRUE EMOTION, what we feel deepest and hardest at our inner core can’t truly EVER be described…they can only be truly experienced, savored and translated by electrical activity experienced by the person and their individual SOUL.

I’m always in awe of the potential view of life. People LIVE… people DIE. Doesn’t mean that I have to like it because those acts of life that may happen…and those acts of life that may not happen…prepare you for the Hyannis atrocities mankind commits against his OWN kind…for CONTROL…in what I’ve come to know as COMBAT.

COMBAT is designed to annihilate and destroy everything that it comes into contact with. The strong have to be prepared not to be broken down and they have to be mentally and physically prepared for all the catastrophic changes they’re about to ENDURE. If you’re not mentally and physically prepared for COMBAT…it will MENATLLY and PHYSICALLY CONSUME your SOUL… and everything you’ll either EVER or NEVER become!!!

    AUTHOR’S NOTE

Culture is defined as the way of life of a singular community, in which their collective characteristics and knowledge dictate their behavior and habits… their attitudes toward each other… and becomes the cornerstone of their moral and ethical beliefs.

Furthermore, each branch of the United States military has its own set of core principles that the service members of that branch are expected to live by. From the first induction, service members are coached these core principles… which are enforced daily through rules and regulations. Though each branch’s core principles vary slightly, their purposes are the same… to institute a standard of expectations, conduct, and governance over the service member’s actions, and life.

Moreover, the military values philosophy is one of innumerable determinants that set members of the United States military independent from their civilian counterparts. These core principles define how the service members exist… and make decisions… both on and off the battleground… as well as overcome day-to-day challenges and adversity. Their purpose is to develop tenacious character and increase esprit de corps and improvement… of the military they serve.

Alongside military culture, service members cultivate a set of colloquial terms which are unique to… and which originate with military personnel… also-known-as military slang. The main purpose of military slang is to reinforce interservice rivalries. Therefore, the military slang presented in this memoir are footnoted… preceded with a description… at the bottom of the page. The following narrative is based on actual events, with fictitious names, to protect individuals’ identities… and began when I found an old newspaper clipping with the following:

Staff Sergeant Mike Indio is home on leave after spending a year in Vietnam. Indio, a Green Beret, was with the Special Forces in Da-Nang, when slightly wounded by a hand grenade. He will be stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY. until his remaining 8 months of duty are up…

    CHAPTER ONE

    Abridgment

The eyes are the windows to the soul… forever tainted by the life events an individual uniquely experiences. My father was a strong man who endured a situation that many people have not had to endure. He saw devastation, and he faced death squarely on. At 19 years of age, my father was more than just a man. He was a warrior. My father served in the U.S. Army for 20 years from 1964 through 1984. Sadly, my father passed away from cancer August 27th, of 2016, at 0253 hours. My father’s experiences in the Vietnam war began when he was a 19-year-old Private (PVT) with the 82nd Airborne Division, 2nd 508 Company B. While growing up he would tell my siblings and I highlights of his experiences, but I always felt that he was holding back much more. As a former HUMINT ¹(Human Intelligence Collector), I could relate to some of my father’s experiences and I found that it was an extremely valuable opportunity to evaluate my father and see the war from the eyes of a young U.S. service member.

My father’s military experiences began before Vietnam. In 1965, his unit was called into action to participate in a military police action in the Dominican Republic. He was a 19- year-old Private (PVT) with the 82nd Airborne Division, 2nd 508 Company B. The purpose of this police action was to re-establish the government that had been recently overthrown in the government coup. He was there for 3-4 months and during his tour of duty (TDY)² none of the soldiers were allowed access to television. He was never sure if the American public was aware of the military action and the U.S. military’s purpose for being there. He was
