ECHOES OF
POETRY
ARS POETICA
My poetry is born from
Balmy palms and fragrant calachuchi
Salt sea air and heady pine scents
Island beaches and redwood mountains
Sun-kissed mangoes and golden poppies
My poetry is inspired by
The elegance of Shakespeare and the quixotism of Cervantes
Inner contemplation and Jabberwocky quirks
Elegant pearls and common beads
The delicacy of lace and the simplicity of a line
My poetry is fashioned from
The firmament of the sacred and the clay of the mundane
The quest of the soul and the vagaries of nature
The promise of hope and the futility of dread
The gravity of truth and the laughter of the absurd
My poetry is imbued with
The faith of my father and the foibles of my family
The threads of wee moments and designs of life experience
The remembrances of the past and the reality of being
The echoes of mentors and the voices of students
I am my poetry
ADVENT
A crisp tenebrous night
Dimly lit by a sliver of silver moon
Labors silently
In anticipation of dawn
Pregnant with whispers
Silent words from the heart
Float in an amniotic universe
A poem waits to be born
RENEWAL
Thirsty Earth lifts her
Parched cracked lips skyward
Welcoming the torrent gushing
From the firmament above
Reminiscent of The Deluge;
Gusty winds exhale havoc
Amid swollen dams
And rising rivers
Signaling the demise of
The long drought
As California celebrates.
Green hills roll out their carpets
