The Cat that Came for Christmas
()
About this ebook
It’s Christmas Eve and Terri’s aptly named cat, Trouble, is missing. Her search for him leads her to an abandoned house. Only, it’s not quite so abandoned. Inside is like stepping into a winter wonderland. There’s a tree, decorations, and a stunning seductress that makes the roaring blaze in the fireplace seem frigid by comparison. Her only flaw is that she’s catnapped Trouble.

Chapter One
Here, kitty, kitty, kit-tee.
The wind blew in from the North, bitterly cold, chilling her to the bone. She drew her scarf tighter about her face, covering her nose and mouth. She’d already breathed in enough of the chill air that she imagined there were ice crystals forming inside her lungs. She tucked the hammer and papers she was carrying beneath one arm and firmly tugged on the wrist cuff of first one glove and then the other. It was pointless. The leather was already as snug against her fingers as it could possibly get. It wasn’t as if pulling them tighter was going to make her any warmer.
Nope, the only thing that could warm a body on a night like this was a roaring fire. Maybe a nip of whiskey and honey in front of a fire, she thought. Definitely mind-blowing hot sex in front of said roaring fire. On a faux-fur rug, just to add to the cliché. With a woman so hot she made the flames seem cold by comparison.
Terri knew all of that was just wishful thinking. She didn’t have a fire, roaring or otherwise, waiting for her at home. She didn’t even have a fireplace. She had a twenty-something-year-old heating system that sounded like a dragon belching its last meal every time it cut on, hardly the ambience that lent itself to romantic fantasy. She didn’t have a fur rug, either. She had bare hardwood floors with throw rugs scattered about. And, she certainly didn’t have a woman, hot or otherwise, dressed in or out of sexy lingerie at home, either.
What she had was a cat.
A spoiled rotten, stubborn, infuriatingly inconsiderate cat. The way all cats are. The way cats figure they are entitled to be.
Had might be the operative word.
Trouble.
The name was muffled beneath her scarf. Curled fingers hooked the front of the scarf and tugged it down. She cupped her hands about her mouth.
Trrroub-lllee!
