Mr. Talos

He placed his frail hand against the wall and shivered.  His head rested its good ear against the wall as if it were a pillow.  He could hear them.  He could hear all of them.  The planes as they roared overhead dropping their bullets and their bombs. His legs dared to collapse beneath his weight. His hands pushed down against the walker. He allowed his head to release the wall and he fled back to his trench, the old wooden chair. He wanted to call his son again. He’d tell him about the screaming. All in that apartment. He’d beg his son to calm them and dry their tears. He’d order him to deploy the troops until each of those planes were shot down. But his son never believed him and got more and more angry each time he tried to explain.
