About this ebook

Hana, the last of the enchanted sisters, has remained in her human form which means she's met her soul mate. But the only man she has touched was a Brethren member who has stalked her the past eighteen months. She'd kill him, but some force keeps stopping her.

Zach More renounced the Brethren's teachings as a teenager and now fights to free his sister-cousins. After a chance meeting with Hana, he realizes the bond that exists between the two of them. The problem is that his soul mate would prefer to kill him than talk to him.

As the final battle with the Brethren approaches, Hana must evolve into her mated powers or the sisters will not stand a chance of survival. Even with her new abilities, their odds are slim. It will take nothing short of a miracle for all the daughters of Eden's Dragon to fulfill the prophecy their mother foresaw.

Magical Enchantment - Evelyn Lederman

CHAPTER 1

Austin, Texas

He was close. Hana could almost feel his breath on the back of her neck. Chills ran down her spine. If it wasn’t for the girls in her care, she’d call forth her dragon and take to the sky.

Her stalker never gave up his pursuit. The Brethren were unceasing in their mission to annihilate the daughters of Eden’s Dragon, but there was something different about this one.

You should allow us to kill him, Hana, Nessa said. He’s relentless in his quest to possess you.

Vanessa Hampstead was the first of her sister-cousins to travel with her. Eighteen months ago, she’d rescued Nessa from her crazed brother and Zachary More. She didn’t know why, but her enchantment ended that day.

Instead of responding to the girl with the mahogany-colored hair, she gathered the girls around her and chanted the words for an invisibility spell. The dark alley and her magic would protect them from Zach as he passed.

She’d hoped the crowded sidewalks of Austin’s Sixth Street with its restaurants and live music blaring from bars would allow them to blend into the mob. If only for a couple hours, she wanted the girls to have a decent meal and some semblance of normalcy.

He’s gone, Cathy whispered. The petite blonde was the youngest of her crew at fifteen. Can we go back to the motel and order pizza?

If she was honest with herself, Hana was the one who wanted a steak dinner with all the trimmings. The girls would be happy eating junk food three meals a day.

Ginny, do you have the strength to transport us back to our rooms? The redhead had the psychic ability, but her skills were rusty from a lack of use. Her family would’ve killed her if she’d used her gift or called forth her dragon.

I’ll try. Ginny’s delivery reflected the doubt in her mind.

You can do it, Nessa said, encouraging her cousin.

Hana crossed her fingers, hoping the shy seventeen-year-old would be successful. She transferred some of her powers to the teenager to boost her ability and confidence. Only recently, Hana realized she could share her power with blood relatives.

The five girls cheered when they arrived safely in one of the two connecting rooms they shared. Accommodations were tight, but she wanted to keep her brood close.

She picked up several pieces of shredded paper and cast a transformation spell. Within an instant, she held several hundred dollars in her hand. In desperate times she cast perception spells making a vendor believe she’d paid in currency. But when time allowed, she handed over enchanted money that would remain viable dollars. Hana didn’t like cheating people if she had an option.

Nessa, go to the corner pizza joint and pick up our order, Hana said. Using another spell, she placed three pizzas in their brick oven.

It would’ve taken little additional effort to have the pizzas materialize in front of them, but Hana reserved as much magic as she could for emergencies and lessons. All the girls had been born with gifts but hadn’t been allowed to use them. Once she rescued the girls, it took several weeks to identify each of their particular gifts.

Hana collapsed on one of the beds. She wished she had the luxury of taking a soothing soak in lavender-scented salts. Their economy motel room only had a small walk-in shower. After eighteen months on the run, if it weren’t for the girls, she didn’t know if she would’ve had the fortitude to continue.

Her mother’s enchantment had safeguarded Hana and her sisters for all but a single day a year. She dreaded the first full moon following the autumn equinox when she left her dream world and became human once again. Expelled from a safe environment, Hana was forced to face members of the Brethren intent on violently ending her life.

The last time she’d emerged from her enchanted prison, she barely became aware of her surroundings when she heard a girl cry out. When she went to investigate, Hana found Nessa fighting Zach’s embrace with another member of the Brethren dead at her feet. This was the first time two members of the Brethren had come after her.

Without thought, Hana knew she had to rescue the girl. At the time, she hadn’t realized the two men had been after the girl, not her. She used her elemental gift to bring about a hurricane strength gust of wind to liberate the girl. The man flew in her direction, knocking her off her feet. For a brief moment, his hand ran across her naked flesh.

That mere thought kept her up at night. She couldn’t get him out of her mind. When she finally fell asleep, he invaded her dreams.

You’ve got that glazed look on your face again, Ginny commented. Are you still trying to figure out how the enchantment ended?

Cathy stomped her feet. We told you it was Eden’s Dragon’s wish for you to rescue us all, beginning with Nessa.

Hana rubbed her temple in reaction to the on-going headache she suffered every time she tried to make sense of the spell ending. Her mother told her before she cast the enchantment that it would end once the threat had been nullified or she met her true mate.

Zach More couldn’t be the one her mother prophesied about. There had to be another reason. She would never submit to a member of the Brethren.

Nessa’s arrival with the pizzas changed the focus of the girls’ attention to the cheesy goodness. The scent of the Italian seasonings spread throughout the room, sparking her appetite.

She grabbed a slice with fresh basil and one with sausage and mushrooms. A chorus of moans followed as each girl took their first bites. Moments like this needed to be treasured.

After dinner, we’ll cast a locator spell and find a sister-cousin needing rescuing, Hana informed her charges. The girls nodded between bites.

Before we leave Austin, we should stop by the Congress Avenue bridge and let our dragons feast on bats, Janice said. I’m sure the locals will appreciate our assistance and it will fuel our dragons for the upcoming battle.

Janice was the warrior among them. Even at the ripe old age of twenty, the young woman had been on her own for five years fighting off the Brethren threat.

Hana’s own dragon seemed pleased with the plan. Her power was at its strongest when both halves of her were in balance.

After she rescued Nessa, Hana learned how the female offspring of Eden’s Dragon were forced to mate with their brother-cousins. Only such a union would produce male offspring strong enough magically to go after the Enchanted Ones. Together, they vowed to rescue as many of the girls as they could.

Let me take care of your hair, Janice, while the girls prepare to cast the spell. The female warrior reminded Hana of her sister Fatima, who braided her auburn tresses in the same fashion. Oddly, they possessed the same color hair.

Spending time with her little army reminded Hana of her sisters and how much she missed them. A day didn’t pass without her thinking about them. Were they still prisoners of the enchantment or had Brethren members ended their lives?

Transitioning into a melancholy mood before a battle wasn’t advisable. Hana picked up a charcoal-colored eye pencil and completed the transformation of Janice into a Fatima-like warrior. Each of the girls outlined their eyes in a different color of war paint, uniquely their own.

During battle, Hana never worried about her own mortality, only about the girls. She’d lost one precious child in their fight against the Brethren and prayed she’d never suffer another such loss.

After Ginny left to throw the empty pizza boxes in the motel’s dumpster, Cathy collected the soda cans for recycling. They tried to be environmentally minded whenever they could. Running for their lives prevented them from performing many productive routines.

The stark motel room offered few distractions as each girl prepared mentally for the conflict to come.

Beatrice held a quartz pendant over a map of Texas and chanted the words of a locator spell. The talented witch had been the fifth girl she’d rescued. With several years of concentrated practice, the girl’s skills could perhaps surpass her own magical abilities.

Hana took ahold of Beatrice’s hand and chanted along with her. They had created their own grimoire, adding spells they found particularly productive along the way. There was no reason to reinvent the wheel each time they needed to use magic.

When the crystal settled over one location, Hana knew their dragons would fly northeast to Waco, Texas. It wasn’t unusual for the Brethren to settle near an institution of higher education. Baylor University would provide jobs, resources, and an environment teaming with girls in their late teens.

Male members of the Brethren required test subjects for their magical development and physical releases once their sexual drive became a distraction to training. Naive eighteen-year-old girls away from home for the first time were prime candidates.

At the stroke of midnight, they headed for the large field behind the motel. Their location in the Texas Hill Country allowed little ambient light from the surrounding areas to flood where they’d shift into their dragons.

One by one, they morphed into
