Chapter 1

The message

Two weeks earlier, Heather 28 and Liam 36 had a new security system installed and the engineer, unbeknownst to them, had also installed secret cameras throughout the house.

Liam worked as a pilot for Harrods Aviation and had met and married Heather eight years previously after coming out of the military and Sophie was their seven year old daughter. And because Liam often spent several nights away from home at a time, Heather used to spend her most of her time with her best friend and next door neighbour Anna as they were both of similar age.

Being quite well off, both Heather and Anna enjoyed a very comfortable lifestyle living in Shackleford, a beautiful sleepy little village in Surrey, England. They'd meet up most mornings after Heather dropped Sophia off at school and were also into Yoga and various other courses at the local church hall. Both their husbands were members of the Shackleford Cricket Club and would meet up regularly for dinner at each others houses. Anna's husband Darren had a lucrative career as an insurance investigator and worked in the yachting industry, primarily looking for stolen yachts which also involved long distance travel and spending several nights away from home.

Everything had been perfectly normal during the weeks leading up to the fateful day and Anna who used to do some voluntary work at the local school, always brought Sophie home in her car saving Heather an extra trip.

Heather stared at the photo, trying to see if Sophie had also been hurt but thankfully, it only looked like she'd been crying. Anna however, looked totally distraught and had obviously been whipped and abused, her legs bound apart with red weals on her stomach, breasts and inner thighs. The room was like a basement in an old house with exposed beams but no windows or other recognisable features.

Another message came through,

If you do as I say, I will release your daughter in the next few hours... But if you contact the police or call anyone, you will never see Sophie or Anna again.

Frantic with worry Heather replied,

What do you want me to do and what about Anna...?

One thing at a time Heather...  Sophie can't stop crying because she could hear Anna screaming as I was punishing her for being abusive.
