Borna Bebek grew up in Britain where he attended Blackfriars of Oxford boarding school. He moved to USA where he studied physics and philosophy at Williams College, and he wrote a masters at Thunderbird Business School. He begun a PhD thesis on the Phidian code – Plato in Heidelberg – Hans Georg Gadammer – Martin Heideger, he moved on to Oxford and completed the thesis at the LSE. He moved on to India where he studied Kriya Yoga for two years with Hariharananda. After India, he circumnavigated the world in a sail boat. He wrote two best-selling books on the subject: Santhana, One Man’s Journey to the East – The Bodley Head and The City of Glass – Abraxis Publishing. His third book: The Third City – Routledge and Keegan Paul is a text book taught at several top universities – Harvard, Princeton, Yale etc. In the late eighties, Bebek befriended Rowan Williams and lived with him at Christ Church College Oxford where he was a member of the High Table. In the nineties, he joined the MPRI – Military Professional Resources INC – a group consisting of former US military experts led by the chief of staff, General Carl Vouno. They helped Croatia break away from the communist block and assisted the precipitation of the former Warsaw Pact. Bebek was a major in the Croatian army-intelligence advisor to the president and a presidential candidate. Military and political carrier apart, Bebek also has an equally significant internationally relevant academic background. He taught at world’s leading universities, is a Fulbright scholar and the head of Academia Regia: an academy set up in 1776 by Austrian empress Maria Theresa Habsburg. He runs it with the approval of current head of the house of Habsburg, Archduke Karl Habsburg, with blessing by former archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams.

Historic Flashback
The concept for this book surfaced. It floated out on the Indian Ocean during an attempt to sail a boat from Sumatra to USA. The idea emerged just before rounding the Cape of Good Hope.
As the cobalt blue ocean was turning to effervescent green the main author was struggling between life paths, caught between the East and the West. Before the Cape, the message came through: Go home, young man, go home and blend what you have learned in the east with that of the west: And he did, he entered prestigious universities of the west studied under famous scholars. As he once lived in ashram of with guru Hariharananda so he lived in his house with the Archbishop of Canterbury when Rowan was a cannon at Christ Church College Oxford.
At one point during our westbound circumnavigating of the globe, a wise Chinaman told us, There are many ways to Tao, but Tao is one.
There are many ways of leading yourself and others. It is a road, a path, a pilgrimage, a journey through the soul, mind, heart, and body. Reading – and writing – a book like this requires patience, decisiveness, and commitment. The readers and the writers do not know exactly what will surface. (Do we ever?) The message, itself is hidden in plain sight. It is in the movement.
About the Book
This is an interdisciplinary book which was written through participation of four different individuals. The writers differ in age, gender, nationality as in profession. The main author also worked in different fields. He worked with business and government as an advisor, in his youth he studied with a guru in India and has written about mysticism, spirituality and adventure. On the other hand, encouraged by phenomenologist Hans-Georg Gadamer, Martin Heidegger and the archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, he pursued an academic career in world’s top universities (Oxford, LSE Heidelberg). He wrote doctorate for LSE on Plato in Greece, started a post graduate course at a central European university in leadership and wrote a book on epistemology: The Third City
– (Routledge and Keegan Paul) A commission in the army and work with American top military leadership coaches the MPRI – (Black-Water –Academy) – Military, Professional, Resources. In general Vouno, former chief of staff, general Griffith and others led him into field of self and organisational leadership.
The book is based on an elemental premise that the created world consists of four elements fire, water, air and earth or in contemporary physics terms material things exist in four states plasmic, solid, gaseous and the liquid. Likewise, in social and individual human reality, an individual human being enters harmony as he participates in spiritual, emotional, mental and physical harmony. This also is true for society as a whole.
The Vedic Hindu elemental division provides that priests relate to warriors as merchants relate to workers. The relation should be just and fair but no formula, no numerical ratio, no code is given in the Vedas.
Plato however gives a ratio a formula a numerical code how the blending of the four elements can be done and we shall in this book look at it analytically and academically but also as does Plato poetically and narratively – rationally and mystically.
In Republic 509d – Plato presents four elemental types of knowledge Eikasia, Noesis, Pistis and Dianoia, whereby a real knower a philosopher should be competent in all four. To know a man needs. to apprehend in all four modes and do that in a ratio equivalent to ratio of the cognitive modes and to really know he needs to know how to apply blending the Platonic-Aristotelian Theoria-Praxis into a single whole.
Likewise the essential premise of this book is that each man to be harmonious and fulfilled needs to be spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically-practically competent. To be competent in these different areas people educate themselves in different ways. People buy books in Philosophy, they study business organisation some read self-help books or study psychology.
Our intention is to fuse different kind of knowledge by using different genres and fusing them into a new genre. There is however always a problem of fusing different genres together. The formula given by Plato also known by others throughout the history makes possible the fusion of different knowledge. There is a way of doing that. There are conceptual and nonconceptual ways of creating new knowledge as there are mathematical, numerical rational ways of doing it This formula is given by Plato in an analytical and non-analytical way. It is given by Hindu philosophers in dualistic Dvaita and non-dualistic Advaita way. It was understood by artists such as Da-Vinci and others and we will share it with you poetically and analytically.
. This book is also a dialogue it’s a dialogue between four types of men approaching a different aspect of a single whole, it is also an ongoing dialogue between the authors and the reader. This book should be a tool to an inner spiritual and emotional development and to practical organizational achievement. It also opens new horizons in epistemology.
To progress in science to open to the new technology we need to look at challenges from different angles, to really understand the world we need to move away from Cartesian duality into multi-aspectuality.
The dualistic Cartesian paradigm had served its term, we need to re-examine and reintroduce the classical Greek and the eastern elemental paradigm and to open to latest trends in new physics and contemporary psychology. In doing that we do not do away with Cartesian dualism but revitalize it by adding another dichotomic pair thus recreating dialectics on a new an n+1 level.
Mankind is ready for a new cognitive and a scientific paradigm, to create a new technology to achieve more efficient material production, we also need to re-spiritualize the production and go about it in a psychologically and emotionally compatible manner.
To facilitate the reading we try to write a highly referenced book with few footnotes. No or few footnotes policy in a book (attempting to be both easy reading and of encyclopaedic reference) means that a reader may skip parts that are in fact referential.
The central argument is simple – a person in an, inner-outer harmony functions as a whole. A whole person is a self-ruler a platonic self-leader. The self as seen here is a self and the other acceptor
. A whole person can lead and be led. In this book we expand these aspects. Seen from a new perspective leading involves four aspects.
Leader leads: 1) himself, 2) he leads the others, 3) he allows to be led by the other, and 4) finally he or she also allows the other to lead himself. Real leadership involves all four aspects as Plato had its best government is monarchy, aristocracy, timocracy and democracy (Rep 544)
The book consists of the introductory part, being itself divided into sub parts, of the body of the book, containing the four elementary parts and the conclusion. The whole therefore contains the elemental four. In fact each of the four contains also the other three reflecting the holistic nature of each.
In a temporal sense in a sense of a process and of a flow to become a whole -a single self undergoes four transformational realms. The philosophical formula how this is done, can be as we have stated be expressed analytically (mathematically) as in code of Phidias but it can also be expressed rhythmically and poetically.
Tools to write such a book include structure and the rhythm, since both the structure and the rhythm convey the meaning. As Plato’s books are written rhythmically so is this book. At first the rhythm may confuse but one gets used to it. It is a part of the message.
Dithyramb comes from the Greek word for two and it contains a dual pair hence it is four-elemental.
As we stated duality is not abolished but it is fused with non-duality through a relation between bipolar pairs – a double deuce
, The eastern bipolar pair e.g. Yin – Yang hard and soft and the western bipolar pair Being and Becoming coupled with Limited and Unlimited (to peras-aperion) creating a doubla dual bipolar metaxis as in speech on love by Diotima (Symposium 202 – 212)
There is répétition in this book specific phrases reoccur. Repetition can strike a reader as unnecessary. But repetition can become interesting as things of the same name acquire a different meaning. By repetition we deepen the affirmative message. In that way repetition helps us achieve a wished-for change.
We use examples from scripture and philosophy, from real life, from literature as well as from popular movies. The later may seem unacademic but it is used by Plato (e.g. Myticus and Sarambus popular wine keepers) and by Shakespeare (Rosencrantz and Quildenstern grave diggers). We look at each single issue from four angles examining the different perspectives.
These perspectives generate four elemental harmonies – elemental states of being. Each harmony is divided into four modules, giving a total of sixteen modules. This digital structure theoretically may seem rigid coupled with a rhythmic poetic flow it turns into fluid and interesting reading.
The four thematic wholes are based on four bipolar pairs: 1. heavenly-earthly spiritual harmony 2. active and passive act-in-act-out emotional harmony 3. non-conceptual and conceptual mental harmony 4. subjective and objective implementational harmony. The dual-bipolarities like thesis and antithesis combine to create a third unity synthesis, while the four elements create a single whole a 1. In this way we use both the odd numbers 1 and 3, which to Plato and Pythagoreans point to male, the right-hand aspects but we use 2 and 4 the even numbers the female creating a male-male duality and a female-female duality i.e. a double duality but more about this as we go on.
Foreword
By following the initial single thread we open up to a nonconceptual and a conceptual a multi conceptual story. We do this by describing seemingly unrelated issues the ingredients of a formula. We will get to the formula in good time but let us not lose the sense of subtlety.
The formula itself is sometimes called by exotic and pretentious names and several block busting movies were made about it. In pop literature it is called simply the Code
– the Code of Moses, the Da Vinci Code or the Secret. In academically respectable context or as presented by Plato the code refers to a four-pronged geometric ratio called the Code of Phidias.
This code reoccurs in Plato and it is characterised by attributes. In the Republic (514) Plato writes about prisoners in the cave. The prisoners are prisoners of their own perceptional illusion. There is a way out but one needs the knowledge. That knowledge can be systematically generalised, in form of a code a formula. Sometimes it is not at all easy to read original or to translate Plato and the code. The prisoners find out that there is more than just one code in fact there is also a code within a code but it is not secret. Let us call it a double dual code and to bring in a game player aspect a double pass or a double deuce.
The objective outer side apart there is meta-conceptual, inner, mystical
aspect to it.
We start on the conceptual to initiate the non-conceptual side. Plato is the grandmaster of making objective statements which lead one to baffling conclusions as the subjective and objective intertwine. Socrec maeutic method uses paradoxes as objective and subjective aspects are used to create dialectical progression. The meaning is to be found not in any statement but in a flow.
The intention is not to confuse anybody by doing this. Socratic (maeutic) method conveyed in Platonic dialogues is to indicate to a participant or to a reader that the dialogue is also a path to meta-verbal non conceptual cognition. Plato activates non conceptual cognition by including descriptions of scenery time specific Greek characters, settings such as popular inns such as the already mentioned Miticus
and Sarambus
.
Translators of Plato sometimes exclude this as philosophically irrelevant but in that way the nonconceptual content is lost. To compensate for this loss we also use popular movies, reference to literature, structure and rhythm to present the conscious and subconscious, objective and subjective i.e. a dual duality.
As authors we are eager and impatient to share with you what it is that we discovered what it is that we know. Before we present formulas, diagrams charts we remind ourselves that diagrams, tables and formulas are just representational tools.
These tools affect the message but they are not the message. One can use these tools selectively and discard them at some point. The message is in a dialogue – it is a flow. In approaching this book with an open mind, without a conceptual prejudice you can develop a hang, a different grasp for this
formula. The formula is a gateway to understanding many things.
Let us take the first shot at this and if we do not get it at first we will re attempt throughout the book. as the book is structured to express this statically but also in a dynamic sense.
Stated simply: if a single line is divided to a golden ratio manner into two halves, one half of each of the two half lines will be in a ratio to the other half line. To make this little more complicated we add that each of these halves is a half of half, hence a quarter. In short a single whole has been divided into four parts a, b, c, d. These parts are not identical but they are held
together by a ratio. (a is to b, as c is to d, as a plus b is to c plus d).
Let us step away from this a little, let us ask ourselves why would Plato write about it, why is the golden ratio in this book. Why have so many books serious and unserious been written about it? Why do we care to write this why would you want to read it?
On one hand you may also ask why not simply draw this why not express it in numbers. Why did not Plato simply draw that? There may be people who will want to get
