- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I'll give it 4 stars for the idea, although there weren't as many new ideas as I'd hoped! When flipping through, I seemed to immediately stumble on the ones that sparked my interest, and the rest weren't as neat. :) Still, what a great kind of book to get more people involved in the small changes that build in the right direction.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5It's not like many of the activities in this book are all that unknown. Invest in a reusable shopping bag, turn off unneeded lights, do some planting, etc. Some of the activities were kinda cute, like "Spend time with someone of a different generation" and "Write to someone who inspired you," but for the most part the book was a pretty quick read because most of the information was old news.Oh and warning, don't show the "Bathe together to save water" page to your kids. That's all I'm saying.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Change the World for Ten Bucks has a great premise: that small actions, done by lots of people, result in big changes. I’d somehow expected each of its 50 ideas for action to relate to the environment, so was surprised and pleased to find that many relate instead to improving human connections. And since most involve no cost whatsoever, the title’s reference to ten bucks must refer merely to the cover price of the book.Inside however, most of the actions are already extremely well-known and even repetitive: avoid plastic shopping bags; use CFL bulbs; unplug electronics; recycle (various products); conserve (various resources). That said, I did find a few new favorites: spend time with someone of a different generation; learn first-aid; smile :). The book seems so geared to young families and young teens that when I read Action #8 (“Take a bath with someone you love”), I expected a family bath -- but, in startling discord, instead found drawings of a couple in numerous positions of foreplay and copulation.A very quick read with few new takeaways -- at most, borrow this one from the library.
