About this ebook

TRADITIONS RUN DEEP…
Other mercenary units fly flags at two flagpoles at their headquarters, one with their unit's flag, and other bearing the flag of their current employer. However, the Third Regimental Combat Team—a.k.a. the Eridani Light Horse—leaves one flagpole bare, as a reminder of the death of the Star League, and the other pole flies the Light Horse's unit and regimental flags at half-mast.
What triumphs and tragedies shaped the Eridani Light Horse and its traditions? What drove them to become a force to be reckoned with, an elite mercenary unit with one of the longest histories and the deepest traditions in the Inner Sphere? Witness the unit's origins in the Star League and follow their evolution all the way through the Succession Wars and the Clan Invasion to their downfall in the Dark Age and their resurrection in the uncertain future of the ilClan era.
Part Seven: View from the Ground by Alan Brundage: The Star League has been re-formed, and the Eridani Light Horse, now a broken unit, resumes serving under the new First Lord's banner. What does this mean for the Light Horse's future and its centuries of tradition?

A steady and irritating ting-ting-ting brought with it a reluctant return to consciousness. Lisette Swann, sergeant in the Eridani Light Horse, rolled over on the narrow, uncomfortable, cot. Swiping unruly brown locks out of her face, she looked toward the bars of her cell. Her hangover-blurred vision made out the short, slim form of Tanon Ino, her fellow sergeant, standing in the doorway. Even back during their training days at Fort Telemar on Kikuyu, he had always been disgustingly prim, pressed, and sober. She suspected he’d been born that way. He seemed to take it as a point of pride. His knowing smirk wasn’t helping either.

Busy night, I see, he quipped, continuing to tap his stylus on the bars.

Lisette levered herself into a sitting position and swayed unsteadily for a second. You could say that. It was fun, though I don’t think I’ll try it again. You getting me out of here?

I might be. He narrowed his eyes. What kicked everything off this time?

There was a slight…difference of opinion.

Tanon’s eyebrows slowly crept up his forehead. Seriously? A ‘difference of opinion’ is what you’re going with? He looked pointedly around the cell. It wasn’t the first time they’d been here during their long friendship.

Lisette leaned back and expelled an exasperated sigh. Fine, I know the drill. I was angry, per usual. I was also kinda drunk. Which I suppose is also per usual these days. I hit on a guy who wasn’t interested, then hit on his girlfriend who was. Guy took exception to that and tried to get me to leave, I declined, he took a swing at me, and so I hit him with a barstool. Bar fight ensued, wacky shenanigans, and I guess the Snakes’ ‘Friendly Persuaders’ took exception, so here I am.

Tanon winced when she called them Snakes, but was otherwise silent for a moment. The Light Horse were guests on a Combine world after all, practically permanent residents, according to the rumor mill. "That’s not exactly how it went down. Officially, no one knows about the fight. You got thrown in here because you puked on
