one
"i bury my soul
and lose my body;
for the hunger
of the skies
and the thirst
of the earth."

cold
long past since the sun shone,
washing the city with colours,
beauty, hope i’ve always known.
long past since the sun shone,
filling my heart with light,
making home in my soul.
the cold has since then settled in,
slowly crawling its way in,
replacing warmth from within;
bringing with it the dark
i’m all too familiar with
and yet it daunts me,
terrifies me,
every second it’s in, or around me.
i might always be scared of the shadows,
for all the times it has taken me from me.
luring me at first,
then dragging me by the heel.
throwing me in the pits so dark,
no way to get lost,
for there’s nowhere else to be.
just me,
in the dark,
cold to the bone,
settling in,
making home in the gloom
circling the loops,
never-ending,
over and over and over.
