    Introduction

    This book will show you how to draw lots of different things. In fact, by the time you’ve learnt all the techniques, you’ll be able to draw anything!

    You’ll see that even the most complicated-looking picture can be recreated by following these simple, step-by-step instructions!

    1. First choose a photograph of the subject you want to draw.

    2. Begin by drawing basic outline shapes.

    3. Add in a bit more detail. At this stage your subject should start to become recognisable.

    4. Add in more details until you’ve completed your line drawing.

    5. Colour in your drawing to match the photograph, or pick your own colours.

    Materials

    Before we start, let’s get some materials together.

    Gather up your pencils, pens and paintbrushes. Make sure your pencils are sharp!

    You can use any smooth, white paper to practise your pencil drawing. Spend some time practising on cheap paper to build up your confidence, saving the nicer paper for your final drawing. If you’re going to colour your drawing, start with a strong watercolour paper that will resist wrinkling.

    An eraser with a chisel-shaped end is ideal for correcting and removing small bits of your drawing. Use a big, soft eraser after inking to remove all the rough pencil lines.

    Sometimes we need lines to be very straight and neat. Using a ruler will help with this.

    Compasses draw the best circles.

    Inking and Colouring

    The drawings in this book have been finished with an ink line. You can apply ink with a special felt tip, dipping pen or even a fine brush. The ink must be
