    Into the Past

    You’re at home, watching a documentary on television with your family. It’s all about the pirates and privateers who attacked the Spanish treasure ships in the 1600s and 1700s. As the TV programme finishes, you decide to head to the kitchen for a snack... and something very strange happens!

    You push the kitchen door to open it, but it’s stuck. You push again, harder this time, then suddenly you are falling forwards into darkness! You’re in a cold, rocky cave, echoing with crashing ocean waves. There’s an oil lamp on a boulder, and next to it lies a handwritten note on a sheet of tattered paper:

    The flintlock pistol was one of the weapons used by pirates on the Spanish Main. The pistol got its name from the flint in the mechanism that creates the spark to make the gun fire.
