Connor Whiteley

Hello, I'm Connor Whiteley, I am an 18-year-old who loves to write creatively, and I wrote my Brownsea trilogy when I was 14 years old after I went to Brownsea Island on a scout camp. At the camp, I started to think about how all the broken tiles and pottery got there and somehow a trilogy got created. Moreover, I love writing fantasy and sci-fi novels because you’re only limited by your imagination. In addition, I'm was an Explorer Scout and I love camping, sailing and other outdoor activities as well as cooking.Furthermore, I do quite a bit of charity work as well. For example: in early 2018 I was a part of a youth panel which was involved in creating a report with research to try and get government funding for organised youth groups and through this panel. I was invited to Prince Charles’ 70th birthday party and how some of us got in the royal photograph. Finally, I am going to university and I hope to get my doctorate in clinical psychology in a few years.

Fireheart Fantasy Short Stories Collection - Connor Whiteley

    FELINE OF THE LOST

The dark yellow sand filled wind whipped across Tervis' face. Gently rubbing his skin bare with each gust of the desert wind.

He tried to pull up his dirty white tunic but he couldn’t get it out under his cold metal armour. It was too tight.

The blowing wind continued to rub his face dry.

Trevis' hands formed fists in frustration. If only he had been better then he wouldn't have to deal with this desert.

So what, he might have been overly talkative, and he might have been deemed a danger to his fellow soldiers. But to give him a sentence of solitude and kicking him out of the army. That was harsh!

Trevis tried to forget about it and he kept putting one foot in front of the other. His large leather booted feet sinking into the rough yellow desert sand with each step. He could have sworn some sand had gotten into his boots from the stabbing sore pain that throbbed from his left foot.

Bravely, raising his head with his hands covering some of his eyes to protect them from the sand. He managed to see the desert landscape around him. With its short sand dunes and the sand relentlessly blowing everywhere.

He turned his head slightly and some sand got in his ears. Trevis screamed at the stupidity of this situation.

He didn't think getting kicked out the army would get his helmet taken from him. But apparently, it was 'in precious supply'.

    Ridiculous!

Trevis had seen four new crates come to the main camp only yesterday.

Continuing to walk through the thick desert, Trevis heard the horrific howl of the wind and the taste of salt and death filled his mouth.

An odd memory from the first time, he arrived in this Queen forsaken country of Mortisitical. All the new arrivals were ordered to spend a night in the desert.

Even as a new recruit, Trevis hated this place with a passion. The sand, the sounds, the snakes! He hated them all.

So, the thought of spending more time in this horrific place was outrageous and his nightmare.

Randomly he started to laugh at himself as he remembered his father's offer to get him to take over the family business.

Perhaps being the Queen's engineer would be better than walking through rough sand?

After a few moments more of him walking and with his feet sinking into the vile sand, Trevis stopped. The wind continued to rub away at his skin. Making his face warm from the pain.

Trevis started to look around to think what in the Queen’s name he was doing out in the middle of nowhere, unloved and exiled into solitude.

When the Ordoicous Army was attacked by the nation of Mortisical. It was meant to be a simple war to get revenge for past transgressions. Trevis started smiling. How long ago that all seemed but Tervis had committed transgressions himself. He bit his lip as the memories of the rage of his comrades came into his memory.

His heart started to beat a little faster at the thought that his friends would kill him for committing something they termed as treacherous. Then he remembered his only chance of living was a death oath.

Trevis continued to walk forwards. He was alone and that is how it had to be. He wanted to die alone, fighting for his Queen once more.

In the distance, Trevis heard the disgraceful sound of the enemy firing mortar shells and cannons. The thought disgusted him. He knew these foes were firing on their citizens and twisting the corpses to remind their people that the Ordoicous were the enemy.

The sound of metal came from behind Trevis.

    He beamed.

A whispering came through the air.

    Trevis jumped forward.

    He turned around.

To see two men in black metal armour swing their long silver swords at him.

Trevis whipped out his own grey longsword.

    He swung it.

    The two men met it.

A great clang barely made it over the howling wind.

Both of the men unleashed a flurry of attacks.

Trevis beamed at the idea of his death.

He met and deflected the blows.

One of the enemies charged forward.

    Trevis dived out the way.

    The man fell forward.

Trevis rammed his blade through the man’s chest.

    The sand wasn’t yellow anymore.

The other man punched Trevis in the head.

Trevis fell back a few metres.

The enemy sword smashed into his right wrist.

    Trevis dropped his sword.

The last enemy charged at him.

Trevis stepped to one side. The man went past. Trevis grabbed the man’s arm and pulled it behind his back.

A disgusting crush and snap managed to reach Trevis’ ears as he snapped the man’s arm.  Before he snapped his neck.

Trevis looked to the other corpses that was almost buried by the sand. He walked over to the body and ripped off the smooth black cloth the man had tied around his face. Trevis did the same.

He almost regretted it as his nose was filled with the disgusting smell of sweat and blood. Yet Trevis didn’t have much of a choice, not with the wind blowing as much as it did.

Kneeling on the ground, Trevis began to look through the armour of the man who almost killed him. But the cold metal armour was too tight to hide anything.

As Trevis was feeling the man’s ankles, he felt something leading into the man’s boot. Pulling it out he saw it was a wrecked parchment map of some sort.

The exiled soldier scratched his head as he attempted to make out of the cruelly drawn landscapes of the area. Which was almost impossible considering the constantly shifting nature of the desert with all the wind.

After a few seconds, he saw some strange triangle symbol labelled
