Introduction
Chapter 1 Making Contact And Preparing For Success
How to prepare for a job with a cruise liner,
yacht, ferry, cargo ship and hotels
PREFACE
Cruise hips carry over 10 million passengers each year. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, a new cruise ship was launched almost every month. Although the cruise line business has gone down dramatically companies are building new ships to adapt to the situation, most at a rate of one or two cruise ships per year.
Cruise line companies employ more than 100,000 crew of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities—about fifty different nationalities from all over the world. The cruise industry has been the most rapidly expanding area of the leisure and travel industry, meeting the demand from passengers who long for a taste of the salt sea air, the luxury of life aboard majestic cruise ships that are floating five star hotels, and the excitement of sailing to sun-drenched paradises across the world. Sailing the oceans, all crew members have the opportunity to visit paradise all over the world, to meet new friends of all nationalities, and to travel for free and get paid well for it.
The yacht industry provides the higher salaries in these days. most of the yacht companies seek beautiful stewardesses to join their teams, and in my opinion they give more importance to beauty than to experience. The coming years will bring a lot of expedition ships which will sail to remote places in the Antarctica Peninsula, the Falkland Islands, Elephant sland, South Georgia, and other locations in parts of the globe they previously never visited this is a magical career opportunity for all who want to start new careers at sea and as well as the most experienced professionals.
This publication in pocket-book size is intended to provide first-step career information for those who want to initiate careers at sea, how to obtain the right certificates, courses, diplomas, and visas needed to work with such greatteams on board these beautiful ships. It is intendedto support the thousands of new candidates, professional crew members and o potential applicants who have neither the time nor the knowledge to research the steps one must go through to work in luxury ocean cruises, luxury yachts, ferry companies, cargo ships, and hotels all over the world. This book outlines each position and department and the steps for each course in obtaining the requisite certificates and diplomas.
This pocket book is the sequel to my Nautical Jobs Hunter: Cruise Career Guide book 2007–2008. he new Nautical Jobs Hunter 2: Cruise Career Guide 2021 offers updated information with loads of new companies, agencies, agents, and concessionaires all over the world. It is aimed at helping everyone who is interested in working in the cruise industry, whether at sea or with the hotel industry ashore.
Working in ocean cruises, yachts, ferries, and hotels around the world has been the passion of my life. I first went to work on an ocean cruise in 1991, at the age of 21 Since then I have never stopped working in the industry. At 50 years of age, I have a very open mind. ormally at work I can support all the departments: I can work as a manager, as a kitchen orter, as a steward or in any department, and this is brilliant. ll of us should be able to support and help others on any occasion, any time. In the course of a lifetime, the learning never, never stops, we are learning every single day, every moment in our lives. I am still working, and I will be the rest
