Future-proof your crew

As superyachts are growing ever larger and travelling further afield, it seems inevitable that the demands placed on the crew who run them are moving up a gear too. In fact, the role of yacht crew has been steadily evolving for the last few decades, particularly in recent times when flag state requirements, cost-cutting efforts and the pandemic – not to mention increasingly involved owners – have all thrown a spotlight on what crew can offer, and where they might be falling short. Add to this the inclusion of high-tech audiovisual systems on board, cybersecurity concerns and the fact that Al technology might one day replace some staff, and many owners are asking: is my crew the right crew for me?

In the most basic sense, the role of crew isn’t vastly different from what it has always been – to provide excellent service for owners and guests, keep the yacht well maintained and ensure the vessel itself and everyone on board is safe. The difference is that now owners and charterers expect this as the bare minimum. They also seek an incredibly high level of service, crew with specialised skills and more entertainment and personalised experiences when they’re on board.
