This book introduces the author to you, the reader, and tells of the wonderful relationship between the author and an elephant and the search by the author to learn about the elephant’s history.
There are several stories in this book about this very big and very brave elephant, some of his friends, and people he helped at great danger to himself.
It is a story highlighting that being able to help others in times of crisis is thanks enough in itself for a job well done.
This is my favorite book and best to be read last.

His father loved telling bedtime stories, making them up as he went along. The common theme was that while reward should not be sought, good deeds are sometimes repaid, often unexpectedly, in kind. The author, now a grandfather himself, is attempting to emulate his own father, using in his stories a blend of fact and fiction. Listeners to his stories could place themselves in the various roles in the story itself, in reading, taking time out to discuss the content, and changing the pitch of their voices to suggest coming excitement and a suggestion of imminent danger.
