About this ebook
Brett C. Begley
Brett Begley lives in Maui, Hawaii, and has raised his children there. Writing and storytelling has always been fun for Brett. He hopes to turn that into something he can share with the right people by becoming an author. He gave up the high power corporate job to watch his kids grow up. It is the best decision he ever made. He is actively involved in his community and volunteers his time to the local sports teams. He is a fine example of what is needed more of today. Lots of kids on the island call him Coach Brett.

This first book is dedicated to everyone who has passed through my life. If you think this book is about you, then it probably is. I have been blessed with being friends with some of the most genuine people on the planet. I miss you if I haven’t seen you for a while. Some of these stories are memories, but the names have been changed to protect the identity of the person involved. It’s not that hard to figure out though. I have thought about friends, old and new, writing this book. I have great memories, and I would like to say thank you to all of them. I hope you enjoy these stories as much as did writing them.
Chapter 1
She’s There
Page one:
She’s there
Page Two:
Rick get into the car
Page Three begins:
As they drive away from the airport full of a future of a lifetime of laughter together.
Rick says, Nice car, I was sure hoping you’d be here.
Stephanie says, I’ve missed you for a very long time.
Let me see it. Let me touch it. You’d better still have it. I was so in love with you. I meant everything I said when I gave you that key.
Can you believe I still have this key after 23 years? I don’t even know how I held onto it for this long. I was very much in love with you too.
Stephanie’s mom trusted her with Rick. They would have the house of Stephanie’s mom to themselves more often than not. Stephanie’s mom would go away for the weekend with her boyfriend, leaving the young couple all alone. One night Stephanie took an old-fashioned key off the wall of her mom’s house. She gave it to Rick and told him it was the key to her heart. It was the most special time in their relationship. She told him that she honestly loved him. He used to keep the key on his key chain for a very long time after they had stopped seeing each other.
Here it is. Do you want it back?
Stephanie hasn’t seen the key in a very long time. She remembers when she gave it to him. She almost begins to cry but smiles instead. Touching the key again is making her heart almost hurt from good memories. She is almost overcome with thoughts from the past and questions from the present to talk to Rick at this moment. Her memories of the two of them are flashing back right before her eyes. She has to remember she is driving and not to lose control.
No, it’s yours. You know, my mom never knew I took that off the wall. I am going to have to tell her that I did that one day.
Rick takes the key back and puts it on his keyring. She feels like this is one of the happiest moments of her life. She has no idea what to say or to think.
I don’t want you to think I am obsessed with the past. I wasn’t sure I was going to tell you. I always wondered if you thought about me over the years the way I had thought about you.
Let’s not waste any more time—he moves in to kiss her on the lips. He gently kisses her on the mouth and nibbles at her bottom lip just a bit.
Stephanie’s smile makes the whole world a little better place to be in.
The California sun is starting to set on a past that seems like it was never forgotten. The couple begins talking nonstop as they begin their first night together forever. Two hours together has seemed like five minutes. The wind is blowing through the convertible. The radio is playing the songs that are making them think of each other, even though they are sitting inches from being able to touch. Rick is not that great of a singer but knows the words to lots of songs on the radio. So he sings lines that are meaningful from the tunes.
They are driving on some of the back winding roads off the highway to get to where
