D o you have a goal you wish to achieve? Are you absolutely certain that this is your true goal? Or could it be that you were influenced by someone’s success? You may have even heard a story that appealed to you and now you feel that you reflect that experience. Before you let your mind wander too far, allow me to share with you some thoughts and information. These following chapters represent a long journey of mine when I was going through never-ending circles of finding myself in the same place I started at. I tried different things, some of which I got bored of doing, some I just hated, and some simply didn’t work.

Time and time again, I would embark on a new journey towards new goals, only to soon realize that it does not suit me. After starting this pattern, it led me to boredom, frustration, and disappointment. I would lose my ability and will to continue, simply because what I was trying to do was not what the real me wanted. Furthermore, none of what I did came from my heart or my deep beliefs. My only motivation was the desire to succeed and to do something for me. But I realized it wasn’t my unique life purpose, and it was too vague a goal to follow.

I found myself admiring success stories happening around the world, especially those that resulted in a great deal of money being made by the subjects of those stories. I was compelled to follow in their footsteps, or to do some of the things they did. Every time I would find myself back where I started, feeling empty and lacking the will to continue.

As any normal human, I did not know what I really wanted, which forced me to spend many hours alone pondering, poring for answers. I asked myself: What is it that will brighten my life? What is it that I will truly, passionately enjoy doing? It is the goal that makes me feel strong, internal emotional power, and a great deal of happiness when I think about it. This idea should be something that is near and dear to me, where I will have a relationship develop between me and this idea.

If you have had similar sensations with certain ideas; the sensation of it persistently popping in your head, and that you will feel happiness in achieving that picture when you imagine it, (and if you are willing to invest all of your energy and abilities to nurture them) you have found your goal. Now you must set out for it and start taking practical steps towards it.

What I’m talking about here is the type of goal that wakes you up and says, get up, it’s time to make your dream a reality. It should also be the kind of goal that begs you to pay attention to it, and to clear up all distractions that pull you away from it. If you feel this way about a job, a relationship, an idea, or a hobby, then I suggest that you listen to this voice in your heart. Remember that the things you seek will seek you in return.

I recall in one of famous musician, Michael Jackson’s interviews, he mentioned that he is awakened in the dead of night by song lyrics or tunes floating in his head. Then, he would call his manager to begin working on a song to match the thoughts in his head. His manager would then ask Michael to wait until the morning, but he would not take no for an answer, and would go on saying, if we don’t start right away, Prince (another famous musical artist) would end up with the song.

This bond between you and your idea is what will make you carry on, despite all challenges and conditions. This type of goal touches our deepest emotions and desires to the point where we begin to think and feel that it’s a living thing inside us, and that our existence is tied to its existence. We feel okay with leaving the warmth of our comfort zone to nurture it, listen to it, and work towards it. This is certainly a real goal and not some type of illusion or dream. Your goal chooses you just as much as you choose it. If you truly don’t know what your calling is, then ask yourself the following questions every single day, and eventually your answer will come to you.
