About this ebook
Cindy Gilbert
I am Cindy Gilbert. My ancestors come from many different places. I have been told that my family is included in the history books in Nicaragua. My mom Grace and my Dad Benji meet in a Nicaraguan prison during a revolution with the Sandinistas government. My mother Grace was a schoolteacher and municipal of the court of Nicaragua, who was recognized by a previous student of hers and let free. My mother was in a rocky marriage to the vice president’s son who had left the country when the revolution began. In prison, a love affair began with my parents as they began to speak to each other in the four doors that enclosed them together. Through the cell walls, they could hear the yelling and screaming of people as they tried to get to safety. In some ways grateful that they were in prison as outside the prison walls churches and houses were being burned down. My mother’s only hope, to get to safety was one of my father’s daughters who had access to a helicopter to get them out of Nicaragua. Soon after a journey to the United States began as my Father told my mom Grace about a life of opportunity in the United States. With only five dollars in my mom’s pocket and no knowledge of the English language, my mother began a new life in her early forties as she began to look for a job in order to raise money to bring all of her children to the United States who were left in Guatemala with her mom and dad my grandparents.

I dedicate this book about who I am to my mother Grace who has prayed for me since I was a young child and to my celestial mom through Christ, Guadalupe.
Ave Maria
A bright light shines bright
A beauty that will outlive time

Poor in the beginning
Being holy and pure to the core
Promised chastity to her Lord

Life Journey
Growing Up in Santa Ana CA in the 1980’s, I was born in 1982 in a memorial hospital as a healthy full-term baby.
I drowned in a swimming pool at about age 3 after I was pushed in and by the grace of God came back to life. Every day since then has been more than a blessing to my life.
SOMETIMES PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE WON’T UNDERSTAND
YOUR JOURNEY AND THEY DON’T HAVE TO.
I love my family no matter how crazy we may appear to others. We are unique, loving God-fearing people, who have received Gods mercy, love, and peace time and time again. I am super proud of my family, no matter what punches life throws at us we keep getting right back up. (pow) The power of prayer is magnanimous. I cannot say it enough I love all my family.
We are all related means to me that we all have the same Father Jehovah, even though we may have different parents.
My youngest sister is Rebecca and I recall the first time I saw my sister Rebecca. I was hiding under the kitchen table and I recall I was looking out the glass window in the kitchen when my parents came into the patio and I saw my mom Grace holding my younger sister Rebecca in her arms. My mom was wearing a long pink gown. My dad Benji was by my mom’s side and they both brought my sister Rebecca into the home for the first time. I was afraid and curious of what they had in their arms, but I soon fell in love and wanted to carry her, but I was too young to hold her by myself, so my older sister Janice helped me hold her while I was sitting on the couch. Every time Rebecca would cry, I would go near her crib and try to comfort her. My sister Rebecca was born bowlegged and she had to wear a brace to correct her legs and every time her legs would get a little better the brace had to be tightened a little more and my sister Rebecca would cry very loudly. Me and my older sister would come into the room and loosen the brace so she wouldn’t be in so much pain and my mother would latter find out and remind us that she needed the brace to be on and tightened in order for her legs to be corrected and she would retighten the brace. Rebecca grew up and her legs were corrected by the brace. She grew up to be a beautiful light brown, light complected female with big brown eyes like myself.
My older sister Janice also grew up to be a beautiful smart female. She has curly long hair; green eyes, is light complected and a good height like me. When I was a little girl, I would notice that my older sister Janice would not speak but would point at objects when she wanted something to express herself. I was told that the reason she could not speak was because the war in Nicaragua traumatized her when she was a young child. Janice went to a special school to
