Life was pretty normal for her. She obtained a degree in environmental biology at UCLA and then taught environmental education. But that wasn’t enough so she obtained a second degree in nursing so she could help others as her mother and father had. She got married and had a daughter but tragedy hit when she lost her second daughter and became inconsolable. But from that she wrote and dedicated her writing to her second daughter Alexis. And this book is some of what she wrote.

    Love Letters

    By Heidi Ernst Scheg

She set her luggage down on the pier where she had just disembarked from the ferry. The sun shone brightly in the crisp morning air. The seagulls wheeled and turned as they cried welcome in their cackling voices. The boats with the lobster traps had just pulled up on the other side of the pier. That’s what she would have for lunch-a fresh lobster roll sandwich with creamy coleslaw. She breathed deeply ready for a new start, ready for a new day.

A kid came by and offered to carry her luggage for five dollars. But her luggage held the most precious love letters from her long lost lover who had moved on to other enterprises just last year, leaving her pining for what they had. The beach smell of sand and crabs brought her back to the day they met. They met in a small beach town similar to the one she had just landed in- so she remembered with a smile. A smile that had not been there recently she realized with a pang of regret. So alone but not lonely she picked up her flowered suitcase and sauntered up the pier to the local restaurant- the Lobster Pot.

With a bell tinkling, she entered the restaurant soaking in the brisk aroma of a boiling hot pot of coffee. She chose a seat by the window so she could look out to the ocean and the bay. A lighthouse led the way for ships in the night, blinking its light every minute as it did its rounds every day, twenty four hours. She ordered her lobster roll and the cinnamon roll covered in icing she had seen in the case by the front door. There were only a few locals in the restaurant as the brunch crowd was sparse.
