Income inequality has never been greater than it is today in 2020. Ultimately this system is destabilizing for any nation. When 1% have almost everything, 10% live acceptably, and everyone else is struggling or in outright poverty, it is inevitable that society will eventually crumble. The US is getting dangerously close to this level of inequality. And there is a reason most of the money has funneled upward to the very few. The 10 new kitchens parable explains how it happens and how to maintain a vital middle class in a nation.

Two brothers, Ronald and Dwight, both very successful businessmen, lived in adjacent nations. Each earned around five million dollars a year, which was 100 times the average salary of $50,000. Ronald lived in Richland, a place where wealth was worshiped and prosperity was supposed to trickle down to the middle class, so taxes on the rich were very low. One year Ronald made an extra
million dollars. He already easily lived on the first five million, so he decided to spend the bonus million on a fabulous new kitchen. He paid a French chef to consult on the design, he bought specialized German appliances and Japanese cabinetry, he imported the finest marble from Italy and hired a few local workers to do the installation.
Dwight lived over in Fairview. He also made an extra million dollars that year, but people thought differently where he lived. Fairview’s folks felt that anyone could live comfortably on 100 times the average salary, so for anything extra after $5 million, the tax rate went to 90%. Dwight knew he would end up paying most of his extra million to the government, so instead he called in his ten best employees and gave each of them a $100,000 bonus that
