PREFACE

Every now and then, some great person screams Eureka inventing something special and unusual for the advancement and the better quality of life. For example, Bill Gates, for his innovations in the highly advance state of technology we are in today. The Wright brothers for inventing aircrafts so that we can cross the big oceans and bring us to lands afar. The list can go on and on. The one thing about life and its inherent feature is change and change is constant. Life is uncertain and the only thing that is certain is death which eventuates for every human being. Still, despite these tremendous feats and accolades there is one thing that appears not within our control. This is when the world is afflicted with sickness stemming from various viruses. No one knows if this is man made or an act of mother nature or an act of God but whatever the term used these deadly viruses can topple the world over, causing immense global disaster to the health and well being of humanity, leave alone the economic catastrophe. Just when humanity thinks you have got it made and every thing is hunky dory and that this world is a beautiful place to live in, a disaster strikes and it has been the case from time immemorial. In the 14th Century 50 million people lost their lives to the plague known as the: Black Death:

If we look back at the track record, the world has seen situations of extreme difficulty and challenges over some of the 23 most deadly viruses.

Mankind has been combating viruses since before our species had even evolved into its modern form. For some viral diseases, with advancement in medical science, vaccines and antiviral drugs have developed to stop infections from spreading rampantly, and have made sick people recover. For example, smallpox —has been eradicated.

However, we are a long way from winning the battle against viruses. In recent years, several viruses have infected humans from animals and causing huge outbreaks, and causing a huge amount of deaths. For instance the 2014-2016 Ebola outbreak in West Africa killed up to 90% of the people it infected, making it the most lethal member of the Ebola family.

However, there are other viruses out there that are equally deadly, and some that are even deadlier. Some viruses, including the novel corona virus currently driving outbreaks around the globe, have lower fatality rates, but are still a serious threat to public health as we have yet found out the means to eradicate them. It appears the onus in still on humanity to find vaccines or other means to combat and protect ourselves from these deadly viruses.

This book is a small book but with a serious intent. It takes a journey on a birds eye view on some of the deadliest viruses afflicting mankind on this planet and will narrow down to the current day Corona Virus that has plagued the globe and which the WHO authorities have indicated as an enemy of humanity. In the current wake of things, it is incumbent to address methods of hygiene that one must. as a mandatory obligation to humanity at large, adopt methods to safeguard the spread of Corona Virus. This is so that things don’t get exacerbated and out of control. Since the onus is on mankind to make
