    Our Amish Bakery, Sisters

    T here were ten Sisters, Eileen, Ava, Evy, Susan, Opal, garnet, Dedra, illamae, Chelsey, Anna, Baylor, Their Mother Mary, and Father Chemal.

    They Bakery was down the dirt road from the Farm their Mother and Father owned; it was a Dairy Farms, known for milk, cheese, icecream, and Father owned and Milk in Cartons Baylor Farms stickers on them. Then each wrapped on the Butter, Cheese, Icecream too. This was called The Baylor Dairy Farm. Their Mother and father worked very hard to Build a Buisness.

    They also had seven boys, Altz, Fritz, Hanse, Biron, Frank, James, Earland,.

    The Boys raised the cows, and horses. While the Girls baked andnow today The Amish builders would build a Bakery in Day. Their Mother and Father were very proud of their Children. They had no phone but a phone down in the valley to use when needed. The Horse drawn to use when needed. The horse drawn plow made ferrows in field. It smelt heavenly of alfalfa. The lilac bushes were very pretty this time of year in full bloom. The Farm house.

    They brought lawn chairs down in the Horse pulled wagon; And sat to watch, they’d go home to eat lunch. Everyone was very excited, Mother kept her hands clasped, her shawl around her shouders, she knitted dark blue, She wore a dark blue long dress to the calf of her leg, and a white bonnet on, with hair pins her long waiste hair pinned into a knot under her bonnet. she wore black stockings and black tie shoes. She wore glasses square rectangle in shape. She was a Beautiful women dark haired no grey in her hairyet. Then her Husband young too. The wagon pulled out front. They had been anxiousely a waiting. Today was the building day of The Bakery in Kalona, Iowa.

    Mother, walked down to greet them. They introduced themselves, John stoltefus his came his came to build aswell Vernon, Jacob, Eli, were well known for their excellant carpentry. Their Big Dog Bailey came to sit down again by the children, her girls with her all ten of them not her boys allseven of them, They were so Happy the start of their long prayed for a Bakery. Then Mother sang yes Jesus loves me.

    The Girls sang to the tune of yes Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so. Yes Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so.

    The sun became warm and The Builders put all the walls up the roof on a forever roof. The glass windows, wooden steps, it smelt of saw dust and fresh cut wood. The loud hammering, sawing, in constant motion. The men took their break motion. The men took their break to eat and sat on the benches in the wagons; eating sandwiches, drinking coffee, and water out of thermoses. The Baylor, got into their buggy a four seater big enough for them all the seats long and wide, like our amish Bus Buggy. Mother headed the team of Horses home, driving into the yard at noon time, they piled out, and walked into their big lovely Farm house. The two wide step made of wood, a large wrapp around porch, with a wooden glidder and several chairs, and planted with ferns in them. The green screen door, open then slammed till all of them were in. The house had a large kitchen with all kinds of cupboards, and an island cupboard in the center of the room, pans hung from the ceilig, the calender was on thewall no curtains lots of plants, in the livingroom on a plant table Father made, three large couches, leather and,, three wood rockers, no curtains on the front window looking into the backyard where in the fall you would see large rows of corn, knee high by the fouth of July. And a porch off the window to sit at a picnic table, no pictures just plain white walls. The Dinningroom two large long tables, with Benches, Father made too.

    In The center of the table a lazy susan to spin with jams, jellys, on it; no curtains or pictures for they were of plain culture, The Amish. Then the floors were all wood, with a rag rug, Mother made them sell. For lunch they had Ham salad sandwiches, hard boiled eggs, and sugar cookies, it was a deliciouse lunch. Then they decided it was warm out and they’d take a nap, so upstaires to nap then, there were three floors, it was huge house. Twelve Bedrooms, Eileen, and Ava, Evy, Susan, slept in one large bedroom they had a dark blue shade on the windows, a cross hung on the wall and a calender. They each had a single bed larger tan a twin size bed not as big as a full. There was a walk in closet, and four desks with a chair made from wood, to read and study books, and writing. There was a walkin closet to hang their clothes in and a shoe rack too. They had a lantern there on a chest of drawers with a box of wood matches to light the wick to see at night a smalll bowl of water to set the the match in making sure it was out. Opal, Garnet, Dedra, slept, in the next Bedroom, coordinated by their age, illamae, Chelsey, Anna, sleptin the room across the hall. Mother and Father room was on the end. You walked up two flights of five steps and the Boys slept four bedrooms, Biron, Frank, James, Earland, in another they had the rooms all set up the same as their Sisters did. The Boys were in the field today planting corn. The Girls with Mother till Three. Then down to The bakery again. There were several clothes lines outside withe clip close pins lesft on the line. They owned two wringer washers which were on the back porch, the basement used for winter vegetables to be set on the floor; and crocks too store meat with salt to preserve which made a rine. Then they made a school house from a Barn, Mother taught them, and they tested in town with the Home School Center making sure they were up to date on their lessons to pass. then there were two very large gardens, full of vegetables, squashes, five kinds, carrots, parsnips, beets, beans, just to names a few. Then the second watermelon, musmelon, pumkins along the wine fence.

    T hey woke up from napping at three. Mother, had them load up again into the Buggy Bus. They walked single file, Mother watered the Horses and they road off. When they arrived They walked single file, Mother waterd the Horses and they road off. When they arrived The Bakery was built ti was very sturdy and simple Beautiful. They built tables and chairs. A big oven was built it was set mounted to the floor. The wood floor waxed to perfection; an ice box; glass case for the Bakery. A Kitchen in the back with running water and sink. A cupboard for pies to sell. Then thry left, next came the wagon with a hundred pounds of floor, twenty pounds corn meal, fifty pounds of buter twelve dozen eggs, fifty pounds white of suger, brown sugar, and powdered sugar. Assortment of jams and jellys for baking, salt, poppy seed, coconut, whey, lard yeast buttermilk, then the bank depositer dropped off a cash register and money, checks with Buissness name, receipts, and pens, bags to put the money in and a small safe. The General StoreBrought dishes, pans, silverware, drinking glasses, measuring cups, measuring spoons, spatulas, cake savers, large baking sheets, foil, rubber rugs for the floor, wax papper, signs to sign the Bakery. They’d all been paid for ahead of time. Then after dark they went home for supper. Father and the Boys would go see it after super. The after supper, Mother and the Girls went to bed as tired as they al lwere from working. The next morning, they woke up when they wanted too. Mother hollered time to get up ladies it’s nine o’clock. Ok Mother, They hollered back each Girl put in her Blue, dark, and slipped over the head, summer so three quarter length sleeves length calf length, Black socks a legging and Black tennies shoes, which tied. Mother wore the same, no jewlery Dress as plain. They wore a white thin cap on the back of the head a prayer cap. There legs carried them downstaires, sitting down to long wooden table with benches. Mother had pancakes and syrup, plates set for each setting and silverware; a glass of milk. Mother said bow your head in prayer. Then they ate pancakes light and deliciouse indeed. After, they cleaned the table then washed dishes leaving the stacked on the counter for supper. Father and the Boys had food packed for lunch, Mother fixed breakfast for them early in the morning. After the girls were done everyone went out to The Buggy Bus, the horses after the Girls set down in the Buggy off they went to their new Bakery. Everyone was so Happy a dream come true for them all. Down the dirt lane they for them all. Down the Dirt lane they went a nice wind blowing thru their Buggy. Mother asked if we were all fine. Yes, Maam" they said, smiling ear to ear. Then down round the bind and the Bakery was there, Maam drove up right next to the Bakery tied the Horse up in a small Barn they’d built for them. Then up the steps and into the Bakery they was baking day, because Monday opening day. They must be ready for Customers. The place smelt new, fresh wood from being built the furnture aswell. The first thing white coconut cake three layer high yumbly, they said smiling, Eileen, brought out the recipe, and followed it putting in a mixing bowl, she put eggs, vanilla, salt, sugar, coconut frosting. They put them, in the baking case locked in for freshness. Ava made, twelve dozen sugar cookies ten dozen chocolate chips, they too went into the cookie case, itwas glasssealed for freshness. Evy, made pies, five leon merange pie.

    Eileen was twenty, Ava was nineteen, and Evy was nineteen twins, Susan was eighteen, Opal seventeen, Garnet sixteen, Dedra fifteen, Chelsey thirteen, and Anna twelve. Then the Boys, Altz twentytwo, Fritz twentyone, Hanse eleven, Biron ten, Frank nine, James eight, his twin Earland eight. They went with Father to learn tasks, in the field and farming starting at age eight. They could nap in the barn on cots Father had there like a small house on the side of a small house on the sideof the Barn Everyone wasHappy because work brought Happiness self workbrought Happines self work brought Happiness self work in anAmish Home, prosperity Our Lord said to thru the Holy Bible. The children were off now from Home School till September, so allwere Happy to folic and play afetr working. Everyone felt excitement for The Bakery opening on Tuesday closed Sundays and Mondays. Mother made cinnamon, twelve dozen, apple fritters, and Donuts. Their Bakery smelt like Heaven yumbly smells throughout. Then at one, they sat down to eat, anything. They wanted, they’d also make sandwiches too, Ham, Roastbeef, from the meat, Homemade Bread too. Ilamae, made a ham sandwich, yum, yum, she said. Dedra made Ham too, Roastbeef for Ava, and Evy, soup, Bean with Bacon, for morning before else, with fried this morning before noon time. In the back was the
