1_GS.jpgDarlene was a big girl now, almost eleven years old. She wanted to be treated as such, so she would let her mom know this very day that she wanted to go into the garden unaccompanied to plant her flowers and just feel the sun on her face. After all, this was a vacation, and she intended to enjoy herself. And it was safe in the garden. Her father had made sure of that.
The cabin in the forest was well made. Her father, an architect, had built a safe habitat for his little girl. It was simply paradise. Darlene knew every nook and cranny in the fenced enclosure, having spent many of her young years there, and she absolutely loved it.
Darlene’s mom looked over at her young daughter and saw how Darlene meticulously arranged all the plants and flowers she wanted to plant in the garden. Her daughter’s lips were pursed into a straight line, and she looked very determined about her work. Darlene had been blind since birth, so her parents kept a special watch over her, but lately they had to admit the bright and carefree Darlene was starting to try to spread her wings a little bit.
And so at that moment, Darlene decided to confront her mother. She called out, "Mom, I believe it’s time to allow me some alone time to try to do things on my own. I want to start by planting these
