This book is dedicated to my own children Jenna and Callum for being the best kids any parent could wish for.

And to their mother Carolyn for bringing them up that way.

    INTRODUCTION

At a time when kids are exposed to more information than ever before, how much of it really stays with them and remembered by them for future use? Is information another in the long list of disposable commodities that we need for a certain amount of time and then discard forever when we’ve finished with it?

Kids can be like sponges when it comes to information and learning about our world-they have the ability to soak up so much, and can hopefully retain a lot of it when they really need to use it. This is where this book 1000 Trivia Questions for Kids can be very valuable as a way of finding out how much our kids really do know about our world, and beyond.

There are many categories in 1000 Trivia Questions for Kids that will see how much kids know. Some of those categories include geography, history, maths, entertainment, science, politics, sports, current events and categories that focus on the trivial, eccentric and unusual aspects of our world. There is something in here for everyone, and unlike some quiz books that have specific blocks of categories, 1000 Trivia Questions for Kids has random questions. It’s easy to discourage kids from participating if the questions only deal with one topic. A person not interested in that topic will automatically be put off answering questions about it, whereas if the questions are randomly asked, there is a higher chance of having something for everyone.

1000 Trivia Questions for Kids is an ideal companion for all teachers in the Years 6-10 range. They can pick a block of questions-select specific categories if teaching a specialist subject, or they can just select random questions. The possibilities are endless. Kids can even use the book effectively to fire questions at each other to see how much the other person/people know.

1000 Trivia Questions for Kids has questions that are fun as well as challenging. Some questions have a multiple choice format, some are True/False and most of them are just straight out questions on topics that kids are interested in and can answer confidently.

After the last question in the book are the answers to all 1000 questions. Some answers also provide extra information to the reader. All answers have been checked and are correct at the time of publishing. In current events questions, the names of leaders of countries are correct up to mid-2019.

As a teacher of senior primary students for over 25 years, I feel I have a good understanding of what type of questions students like and will attempt to answer. Students in my classes were engaged with quizzes on either a formal basis comprising teams with answer sheets, answering questions on an individual basis or just having questions fired at them and answering verbally. Every student had the opportunity to be involved, and even the more reluctant ones became engaged after a short while.
