Ella's Stories
Author

Mary Kathleen Preston

During the hardest years of my life after my son was killed in an accident, and my husband had a heart attack, I was able to cling to these stories and remember the better times in my childhood on Grandfathers’ farm. They meant so much to me that I told them to my grandchildren who loved them as much as I did. I would like to share them with you. May you be blessed with the rich history of our young nation in the early 1900’s.

    Dedication Page

These are stories that Ella told to her two little girls, after she was grown. The girls preferred them to fairy tales at bedtime. They are accurate to the best of my memory. I am the older of the two girls. I am Mary Kathleen.

Christmas and the Journey are Ella’s parents Alex’s and Mary’s stories as told by Grandpa Alex himself.

Mary Kathleen spent one month each summer of her childhood on grandfathers’ Dairy farm. Grandfather told her stories of his life in Scotland and the move to America. It is truly amazing what the immigrants were willing to face to make a move to this amazing country of America. We sometimes forget the stories, but I believe the strength and ingenuity of these fine people are important stories in our history and should be passed down from one family member to another, one generation to another. Prayer was a big part of my grandparents’ life and legacy. Even when I was a child grandfather read a chapter out of the Old Testament and a chapter of the New Testament each evening.

May the peace of living on the farm abound in your heart, as you read these stories.

This book is dedicated to my granddaughters and Ella’s great granddaughters Melissa, Kendra, Amanda, Joanna and Nicole, and the entire Bews family, with much love. Grandmother Mary Kathleen.
