About this ebook

Hot Flush Dark Cave

The extraordinary personal account of one woman’s spiritual transformation through the portal of menopause. Tree dives through the portal as a willing, enthusiastic initiate. She follows her intuitive understanding; that she is responding to an invitation to a vital, life changing initiation. The story follows Tree’s three-year journey. After spending twenty years raising a family, she responds to a deep need to withdraw into solitude, creativity and nature. She travels to her own interior, shedding parts of herself, burning off dross, using hot flushes as a form of alchemy, purifying herself. She spends much time in nature. During the initiation the veil between this world and the spirit world lifts. Much wisdom is imparted by the spirit world. Sometimes painful; both physically and emotionally, often joyful and enriching, and always transforming.

    Foreword

Many women will tell you that Menopause (and growing older) have resulted in greater freedom, peace, power and self-knowledge. There is something very liberating about the whole transformation, not just physically but also spiritually. So often I have heard women say that they no longer worry about what other people think! That was certainly my own experience. Greater freedom and independence happen naturally as we become more firmly established in who we are. We are now more in touch with what we think and feel and less influenced by others whom we have tried to please. Essentially, a kind of spiritual maturity and liberation occurs with Menopause if we allow it.

For Tree, this spiritual transformation took place on a much deeper and more profound level and created a dramatic shift in her state of Consciousness or Being. Hot Flush Dark Cave vividly describes Tree’s magical journey and profound metamorphosis.

I have selected many hundreds of people for interviews on Buddha at the Gas Pump. I found Tree to be among the most genuine and innocent. She has great integrity, honesty, humility, and wisdom. Tree Wiseblood is name in form. Her connection with Spirit and her work as an instrument of Spirit are a blessing and a rare gift.

    Diving Through The Portal

    Entering The Cave

Hot flushes and cave pictures. The spiritual portal of menopause lay open in front of me. At first an unconscious gathering of images: caves, tunnels, Gaudi architecture, anything resembling a dark, internal, inviting cavity. My special board, an array of collected imagery, visual fodder gathered bower- bird style: photos, drawings, scraps of material, textures, colours, no apparent rhyme or reason. On closer inspection I notice the recurring, alluring theme of caves begins to dominate my consciousness and my board. Cave entrances alluding to a dark, quiet, protected space, a sanctuary that I now longed to crawl into. I realise an urgent need to reflect on self; to plunge into the depths of myself. I am responding intuitively to the ancient call; an invitation to menopause. I have accepted this invitation from a deep and mystical knowing. An intuitive understanding leads me forward on this well-trodden path.

I can do what I want when I want. Twenty years of service to the family now there is just me. I run around shouting, I can do what I want when I want!. I can’t settle at first, too excited by this revelation. Reading, walking, sitting in nature. Cook a lunch, a glass of red, painting all afternoon, sheer bliss. I have a deep knowing that this is a grand adventure to embark upon. I am excited by the possibilities inherent in the journey and sense with its completion I shall discover my power. I consciously dive through this spiritual portal with an open heart, a sense of adventure and a big Yes on my lips. A deep knowledge of the tools I require is embedded in me. Solitude, nature, time and creativity are required for this journey. Oh yes, and a cave. I need a cave. I sit in my empty nest, my feathers are worn, ruffled, I am exhausted, completely depleted. Twenty years of family life comes to a close with the departure of our youngest child leaving to attend university. I am suddenly exonerated, free. Free to go into the cave. I turn the nest on its head, shaking the contents loose, shaking myself loose. I turn the nest on its head and find my cave.

My cave is a tin shed on seventeen acres in the hills on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Isolated, ruggedly beautiful, quiet, steeped in the natural world.

This is the place we reared our family before moves to major cities for education. Home! I am so happy to be home. I realise this is my place, my space, my cave. My husband stays on to work in Melbourne; I choose to return to the shed alone. The shed is my cave for the next three years of initiation. I do not mourn the loss of my blood, but feel instinctively that a transformation of my whole being is taking place. At times I worry about losing my physical beauty, as I am now greying and my body is definitely not the sexy little vessel that once carried me around. My definitive feeling is however one of thrill and excitement, feeling I am to gain more than I lose.

    Women’s Retreat

I receive a strong intuition that on the completion of my initiation I will use this experience to work with women in menopause. Menopausal retreats into nature, supported by solitude and creativity. With the view of testing the concept of retreats for menopausal
