Kathleen Roy
She began writing from the age of ten. Her father, a Hindu priest, supported and encouraged her to achieve her ambitious goal to publish children’s stories. She is well motivated as everyone is interested in her material. It is her belief children should listen, read, and emulate good authors. Her father, an influential man in the community, purchased good volumes of literature books for less privileged children. She wrote short stories for the church and school. The short stories were based on flowers, plants, and birds, along with household pets. Although books were very expensive, as they are these days, some sacrifices were made. We got very little treats. Libraries did not always have books we wanted; hence, she wrote excellent stories. She found writing enjoyable. One can command words, paint pictures, and enjoy moments in faraway places. Writing is a means of communication, expressing views and imparting knowledge to children, encouraging them to become good writers.
