36519.jpgMarian Miller twisted and turned as she lay in her bed. Her body jerked as she struggled against an unknown assailant as she moaned loudly. She was again in the grips of a nightmare that had haunted her for years. Loud, noxious, maddening sounds surrounded her. A tribal beat seemed to emanate from somewhere deep within her inner core and vibrate to the very depths of her being. Dazed and confused, she could not tell from which direction the sound originated. The air surrounding her was heavy and dank, chilling her to the bone. She knew she was now outside because she could feel the slow drizzle of raindrops as each landed on her cheeks. The stench of wet earth permeated the air and assaulted her nostrils. She struggled valiantly to move her legs, but they refused to obey. She stood rooted to the spot while the sounds in the darkness held her captive. Her arms felt like they were bound to her body. Marian was immobilized and totally unable to move her limbs. At the same time, she realized that her vocal cords were frozen and she could no longer utter any sound of her own. Many thoughts ran through her head, none of which she was able to hold on to. After what seemed like an eternity, an idea, a tiny glimmer of hope began to form. She fought with all of her might to capture and hold onto this thought. She tried to pull air into her lungs to no avail. Slowly, her lungs began to swell as she fought to suck in air. As her gasps for air became deeper and longer, she suddenly knew what she must do. She had to say the one word prayer that is the shortest, but the most powerful prayer there is. Her muscles tensed. Her body arched. The prayer erupted from her lips.
